So, Canadians messed this up…right?

Stunting that is not patriotism.
Neither is endless self-flagellation. Taking the good with the bad and acknowledging that is one thing.
Making the bad things the focus of every discussion, holiday, and generally all aspects of life is destructive. If we applied today’s ideals to all of history in the manner people like you support, there would be nothing left. No historical figures, no history, nothing. It would all be condemned—these aggrieved groups included.

The people who wrote the constitution believed it was a right of free people to divorce themselves from political bonds that didn’t serve their interests.
Depends on what you mean by that.

Exactly. And there are some Grade A retards in this thread that don't see what this is about. Tearing down the statues of Elizabeth and Victoria isn't some repudiation of monarchy. It's an attack on Canadian history and whiteness and all the "evil, hateful crimes" perpetrated by Western society against the moral, honorable brown peoples of the world.
As usual, these nutjobs want to overthrow the apple cart with no thought of what comes next.

They also vandalized multiple Catholic Churches.

I’m merely making the rational point that the protests against the “colonialization” of Canada are backed in part by Marxists. And their goal is the takedown of capitalism. You’re sympathetic to their goals, so you’re dancing around pretending this is about the monarchy. You’re not even that good at it.

What's the other part here?

I’m not sure there is another part. But I was being charitable.

I was genuinely curious if there was perhaps some other faction involved here that I wasn't aware of.

This thread delivered. Who knew that statues to a pair of constitutional monarchs would get everyone's panties in such a bunch?
I do enjoy the irony. A bunch of white people tearing down a statue that represents the very government that made their life and lifestyle possible.
Let's face it, if it weren't for the European Imperialists, North America would still be a land populated by indigenenous tribes living off the land, warring over hunting territory and dying of cholera each time someone shite upstream in the creek.
Lastly, tearing down a statue of Victoria is weapons-grade stupid. Someone should introduce that braintrust to Palmerston and Disraeli.
