Speaker Scalise would be more valuable to LA than Gov. Scalise...

I hope Steve Scalise is well enough to do the job.
He's been a loyal team player for years and now is his moment.

Not too sure about that. Even if fully healthy and up for the job of managing a shitload of personalities, Scalise still seems a little too comfortable in the swamp and bacon-wrapped shrimp club for my liking. Jordan is the obvious choice imo.

How about no to both.

I remember people saying this when he became Majority whip and Majority leader.
I can't think of a single thing that improved in Louisiana as a result of him having those positions.
I kinda think Washington has him now. He's in the business of looking out for his cush job and perks in Washington and really not so much concerned about Louisiana as many would like to believe.

this is my only real sense of unease with Scalise.
have not tracked him that much - but anyone who has been there that long and NOT come to my more immediate attention means that he must be engaged in a lot of hush-hush crap.
and to have NOT heard him speak up about a lot of the OBVIOUS outrages he has been there to watch happen, it makes me unsure that he is that opposed to it.
I know of nothing specific - but not having staked a public stance on so many of the crushing malpractice over the past decade means he is not a LEADER.

I live in his district ... I hope he wins and showers us with pork. If we are headed to insolvency anyway, I want to at least have nice things!

No Thanks. Dude was wearing this yesterday

ETA: We have a problem with age and illness (mental as well) in congress. I am NOT making fun of the man for having a terrible illness. The point was pointing out this guy is sick and we seriously want him to take on one of the most important jobs in US government?

I don’t want anyone who would be good for a particular state. The country is hanging by a thread. We need someone who can do what is best for the entire country. Rein in spending. Reduce debt. Somehow reduce the administrative state and return governing to the legislative branch. Actually force a return of the FBI/CIA to their duties. Declare war when needed; keep us out of conflicts otherwise.

He is in treatment for cancer which weakens his immune system. Seriously?

he has a rare form of blood cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy.
People have always worn those when undergoing chemo, long before covid.

I’d prefer Mike Johnson if we’re going with someone from La

I heard Scalise is battling multiple myeloma. Is this correct?
That’s serious cancer.

Someone in my family has had multiple myeloma twice.
He will be very fortunate if all he needs is chemo. My family member needed stem cell treatment on two separate occasions and it's a bitch. He couldn't perform as SOH if he needs that treatment.

There is such a raging lunacy on this board. People will cut off their noses to spite their faces because they see an image that paints a narrative.
All the while decrying mainstream media and clickbait journalism.
Their analysis and decision-making based on situations and people are distilled into what a fricking picture symbolizes to them. Trained like a Pavlovian Dog to slobber at the sound of the whistle.
This is on either side.
Neither is above or beyond the other's total lack of vision. People on the left and the right are equally guilty of not pushing past the surface or front page or headline.
Most of y'all suck.

Only more valuable to those looking to benefit from those sweet sweet government contracts.
C'mon, this is Louisiana. You really think any LA politician is going to do this out of kindness for this state? Child, please.

THIS...
Had Steve Scalise run for Governor, he would win.
He played the long game and may become third in line for the Presidency. Not bad. Not bad at all.
