No going back to before. We made Iran test their non-nuclear nuclear option with trade in the Gulf and it worked better than they could ever hoped.

I think what they likely want is to ensure no attack happens like this again and that they can extort the Gulf Arabs at will. They would be stupid not to press whatever regional advantage they have, as while the US could displace the IRGC with an invasion, there is no will for that in the US. They should be planning for a future without Trump. If Trump himself suffers in the polls that is an added bonus for them.

They're in a stronger bargaining position but we have damaged them badly in other ways. Unfortunately for the US, most of the damage we've done will only be realized by a peace that will allow the factional powers to tear themselves apart...and that true peace is unlikely to be favorable to the United States right now.
I think our admin believes that these pauses will cause the fractures to emerge but the only thing that glues the Iranian state together is the struggle against Israel and the United States. The more hot that struggle, the stronger the bond.

In what ways? Their power and abilities were never based on their conventional military and they still retain the ability to project power to their near neighbors.

I wish we would disabuse ourselves of the notion that the regime doesn't have popular support. The funeral of Ali Khamenei definitively showed that the regime is a majoritarian institution, where the major ethnic and religious group, Shia Persians, have an extremely large stake. In any other context, we wouldn't suggest majoritarian institutions in other countries did not have popular support.

We'd ultimately be in this same scenario, only with the Mullahs possessing nuclear tipped ballistic missiles. Trump chose the lesser of two evils, and he'll have to do the same thing in this Nation re harvested illegal ballots and muh democracy toward "fundamental change".
The real battle which threatens this Nation will begin in November. So for the sake of polity, I guess Trump should just lay down and let the Commies and smiley-faced Islamists invade, conquer and transform as well. Illegal vote by vote and city by city. We'll know pretty soon.

The.problem.of Irans ballistic missle and drone threat to the regional energy producing infrastructure will still persist and may even get worse by then. The fact that there is no easy way to defeat this threat along with our dwindling supply of interceptors is the main reason why we've been stuck in this situation for months.

If all things are equal domestically…yes.
However, Iran has MAJOR internal issues at the moment.
They had them prior to the conflict, but the conflict has exacerbated them.
In short, time is probably not on their side. The longer this goes on, the weaker they (not just their position for negotiations) will be as a country.
That is my take.
