47 has to cut bait trying to negotiate with them. It's maddening.

What’re the other options? Kinda between a rock and a hard place at this point.

Serious question. Before the war (not really a war) began, were we in negotiations over the SOH? If not, then go back to what it was before and problem solved.

Sorry haven't been able to watch news today. Can you please provide some more context? Is this "breaking news"?

Any negotiation that leaves the strait open even temporarily is better economically than no peace deal which has it closed.

Stop negotiating, take Kharg Island, return to negotiation.

take Kharg Island

We've effectively taken Kharg Island by blockading the Strait. What do we get by taking the island that we don't already have? Aside from an island that is useless to us?

No and this administration, or at least the military leadership, were fricking ignorant and didn't have contingencies.

Trump has done nothing but step on his dick with the Iran situation. Will likely go down as the second biggest blunder of his time as president, only surpassed by keeping Fauci employed early on in the pandemic.

The US can't protect moving ships, how the frick do you think they'd defend an island.

Its already been stated that Iran would rather blow it up than let the US have control and you want to talk about fricking the global oil markets, there you go.

The US does what it wants. However, the MIC's worldwide need the bad guys for profit. We also do not want to see IRAN become an empty vessel, unable to protect itself from its neighbors who are chomping at the bit.

The IRGC, fundamentally, does not care about 'assets.' They are only interested in gaining leverage and then using that leverage to dangle during negotiations. This whole adventure will have them tripling down on their foreign policy approach. The Shia in general are prone to gangsterism, and the Iranians even more so.

What does them having it accomplish if the strait is closed?

What does us having it accomplish if the strait is closed?

It’s just weird because Trump hired the best and most confident hairdo on Fox News to run the DoD. Make it make sense!!!!!

There is literally no one save Pakistan and Turkey who could do anything to Iran, and Pakistan has more pressing security concerns and Turkey does not care as long as the Iranians keep their Kurds held down. The KSA, the UAE, and the Gulf Arabs in general don't have the ability to force Iran to do anything.

The Persians and the Turks dominated that area for a millennia, and before the Arab expansion, the Persians were the predominant power in the region. The Abbasids oversaw the change to a Sasanian Persian style of governance. The Arabs have the money, but not the population nor the will to displace Iran, unfortunately.
