All they have done is threaten to put mines in the water and that’s caused insurance companies to not insure tankers going through the strait.

They've done a hell of a lot more than just place mines.
They've launched missiles and drones at shipping and scored some hits. If you were a ship owner would you risk your vessel and crew? If you were a ships captain would you sail under these conditions? It's not just insurance companies that are balking.

Why can’t Trump open the strait?? He literally ended the war in Ukraine 24 hours after taking office didn’t he?

Well that just sounds like a reoccurring theme. Insurance and trial lawyers, from hurricanes and truck wrecks to mullahs and the Strait of Hormuz.

The US govt should announce a backstop for the insurance companies for 6 months. If a vessel is bombed we will limit the losses.

Remove the threat.

This is correct if only the freaking mouth breathing idiots on this board would understand that and not start a thread every time irgc says the strait is closed

That's a clear message that they are willing to die for their cause. Trump needs to make it happen or load up and come home.

The Shahed drone launch zone (assuming low ends of their range) to hit the Strait of Hormuz is 1.5 times the size of California.

It’s been 5+ months, Iran just proving the world doesn’t need the oil from the Straits

Yep. They're screwing themselves the further they take this, as the world is rapidly finding new ways to render the Strait obsolete. Work has already begun on pipelines to completely bypass the Strait, more and more countries are moving their purchasing to more stable markets in safer seas, and OPEC is self destructing while it's core members - all except Iran and Oman - have moved on to other pacts and allyships with the West and Israel.

I say we quietly keep the sanctions and the blockade in place and just wait. Trump needs to stop posting to social media about it and/or any deals and just quietly let it happen in the background while Iran suffers. Stop trying to negotiate an opening to the Strait and just slowly choke the financial life out of the Regime.

They've literally done none of this. Why lie?

It's not a lie. They've hit ships trying to transit the SOH and have hits ships at anchor in various Gulf States ports.
