Police Departments need to hire a team of lower level psychologists to continuously view high stress training and livestream body cams.
They need to start flagging officers who perform poorly under stress before more innocent people experience this stuff. Those flagged officers should work desk jobs until they pass remedial training and earn the approval of more accomplished psychologists.
Most people with only a psychology degree are probably baristas anyway. Cities need to outbid Starbucks for their services.

But with all the videos of people reaching back, which usually does indicate someone reaching for something, that reaction is not surprising.
The cop said it himself as to why he thought he was justified in shooting the kid, and I don't think it was because he thought he was reaching for something. In a previous post, he was quoted as saying that he was "struck" by the car. The car door hit him as the kid went in reverse.
Again, I'm not saying he was justified in shooting.

Ever seen Casino?
“What gun? He had a fricking hero sandwich!”
“Well it was dark and it looked like a gun…”
“You a-hole! I’m gonna be filling out paperwork for two weeks because of you!”

We have video. You dont need to post anything the cop said.
Door opens and 4 seconds later shots are fired.
Cop didnt announce himself once.
Was behind the kid even after he opened the door.
Nothin the cop did was right from VIDEO.
Yes, you are simping.

Cities still will ignore those psychologist reports.
Ask people associated with NOPD about the psychologists being overruled on officers in the mid-90s.
What was her name, Antoinette Frank, who robbed her off duty work spot and killed her partner? She flunked her test but got pushed through anyway.

Like the woman beater & sexual assaulter Jacob Blake who was going for his blade (admitted, not conjecture)?
Very similar situation.
Listen to the cops. They can’t read minds, only react to what others do.
Sometimes they react too late & never come home.

It's always best to wait until we know what actually happened.
I have a strong feeling this punk was reaching for a weapon. That's usually the case.

A question that I haven't seen answered/addressed, can a cop just walk up to your car door and open it without your permission, warrant, or a reason to believe someone's life is in danger?

This is one of the comments in the link.

Cops should be like firemen. Instead of wandering around looking for people to kill. They should hang out in the station until someone calls them.

What we really need is armed IRS agents

No doubt, the percentage of good cops is not 100%. That doesn't mean George Floyd earned hero status. But this cop definitively sounds like he belongs in prison, if the context of this short narrative is true.

Kid panics and turns back toward the interior of the car. No idea what he was about to do, but cop unloads on him.
That's what got him shot, the policeman
also didn't know what he was about to do. Should he have waited to find out, and maybe get killed? You always need to be careful of your movements when interacting with the police. Be mindful that they have to perceive every stop they make as being a life threatening situation.

Bizarre to me that anyone would be.
They work for us, we should hold them to standards.

When people are claiming he opened fire because the cop thought he was reaching for something, when it's also likely that he did it because the door hit him, then yeah. I don't see the problem with posting what the cop said. Not sure why that is a hangup for you.

All of which I agree. Are we not allowed to discuss the full breadth of what happened? Are we not allowed to criticize the nature of how things are reported, while still agreeing that the cop was in the wrong and did nothing right (based on what we know and see in video)?
Maybe you should try reddit.

It looks like the kid reaches down and tries to use the shifter, then starts turning the wheel? Was he panicked or did he accidentally put it in neutral or something?
Having said that even if he “evaded” earlier that isn’t a lethal force situation. And by the time the cop unloaded he was away from the Carson not in a ton of danger.

quote:Not even remotely similar. The cops were rightly called to deal with Blake, he ignored them - net of a tasing - and proceeded to get in his car and reach for a knife. GTFO.

Right. You'd see flashing lights if it was. The guy just rolled up on the car with guns drawn, not even sure if it was the same car from the chase the previous day.
Talk about irresponsible and stupid.

Lighten up snowflake.
Both ignored the cops directions & made quick sudden move as he turned his back. No way of knowing what if anything he was going for in that instant.
