ETA: I got this wrong, but am leaving the original phrasing intact to both own the error and to make sure readers understand what others are referring to.

The cop did NOT have the gun drawn when he opened the door. He seems to have only pulled it after the kid reacted. He still handled it badly, but that is only part of the story.

I posted this after watching it once, then got into my day.

I apologize unreservedly for the error, and for the arguments it precipitated over exactly what happened.

I saw this on the Twitterz and thought it had to be wildly out of context or a flat out fabrication. Nope.

Cop thought a parked car he came upon was one he had chased the night before.

Walked up with gun pointed at driver, pulled the door open, and surprised a kid inside sitting there eating a burger. Tells him to get out. Kid panics and turns back toward the interior of the car. No idea what he was about to do, but cop unloads on him.

Kid eventually throws the car in gear and drives off. Ends up in critical condition.

For those of us (myself included) that are generally inclined to side with cops, this is a counterpoint. There actually are too many poorly trained, jacked up dudes out there.

We moved past this point when local cops started arresting pastors for having church and sending helicopters to snatch people paddle boarding in the ocean a mile and a half from the next closest human being.

This is the headline.

Not the stupid lie that he was shot for eating while not driving.

Good grief.

I don't even know what the victim could have done in that situation to prevent getting shot. The cop was so on edge and the slightest movement by the victim prompted the cop to shoot. The victim was totally surprised so of course he made a sudden movement but it wasn't ANYTHING that should have caused the dumbass cop to shoot.

Feel bad for the kid, glad he's not black, because when the EXACT SAME THING that happens to non-black kids happens to black kids, it's "racist".

Yeah. So sick of salacious headlines. The dude literally started driving in reverse when the Cop told him to get out of the car.

The kid didnt even have time to process who was opening the door and freaked out.

Cop needs to be in jail and certainly not a cop.

its night time and a guy with a gun opens your car door. This all happened in like 2-3 seconds.

Yep that's as dishonest as "arrested for DWB - driving while black".

On second look, you hear a "OW...frick!" from the cop before he opens fire. At first I thought maybe his foot got ran over, but I think it was the open door hitting him.

I'm not excusing the cops actions, just providing more context of what may have lead him to opening fire...I'm also not saying that was appropriate either.

Who gives a frick what the kid did? He's some dumbass 17 year old eating a cheeseburger in his car completely minding his own business when some chucklefrick cop opens his door and puts a gun in his face and starts yelling to get out of the car. I have no clue what I would have done at 17 in the same situation, but I don't know that I wouldn't have freaked out and panicked with a gun suddenly pointed at me.

The cop is 100% at fault in every way and I wouldn't even be concerned if this kid's dad hunted him down and executed him.

The cop blasted 10 shots into the car, he was no threat to the cop.

The cop has already been fired, and I hope he gets attempted murder charge.

If you’re going to shoot anyone who is not stationary with their hands visible and calmly obeying screamed commands of a raging lunatic, find a fricking job that doesn’t scare you shitless.

How do you even get out thinking you can make an arrest based on this?? Part of the job is making arrests. You have to have a clue what you can arrest people for. And part of that is putting yourself in the DA’s head for at least two seconds.

SAPD rookie James Brennand initially said he fired his weapon after the teen suspect struck him with his vehicle, according to police reports obtained by MySA. However, body-cam footage posted by the department appears the teen, who's recovering in hospital, never struck the officer.
Cop fired for being a lying pile of shite. Should be charged with attempted murder.

*this is all you need to know for all the boot lickers here, the cop fricking lied to save his arse.
