Have to say, I'm a bit perplexed at the response my comment has generated.

quote:

So you find it unbelievable that there are Russians that are prideful of their country? And that the only reasonable thing to consider about Russians having pride in their country, is that it MUST BE propaganda?

As one who grew up at the tail end of the cold war and got to watch perhaps the single greatest address by any US President, Reagan's Brandenburg speech, of course I'm skeptical of anything coming out of Russia. It's in my DNA to not trust the Russian gov.

But when it comes to the actual people, by all means, show your pride in what ever country you're from.

Which is also why I reject outright anyone who tries to call being proud in America as being 'fascist' or 'nationalistic'. Hell yeah I'm a nationalist! F*N USA!

quote:

What if i were to tell you, that anyone is as quick to dismiss something as propaganda as you are, is also victim to propaganda?

Russia is fighting an invading army as well. Ukrainian troops invaded Kursk a few months ago.

Let's not pretend that Russia is the good guy here. Their entire empire was built through conquest. It shrunk back down once they could no longer maintain it, but they're trying to expand it back to the geographically defensible borders that they had during the Soviet period. The heartland of Russia is horribly exposed to the Polish Gap and the Bessarabian Gap. We keep trying to make this about ideology, policy, and blame, but it all boils down to geography.

Every empire is built through conquest. Russia is more of the good guy here than not. Anyone who opposes the globalist agenda is a good guy in my book.

This isn't about politics. This is about Russia trying to create geographically defensible borders.

No country wants to take over the paranoid Russians. But Russians are different and will never come into the world of western developed nations. They will forever have a paranoia. They have nukes. They will never be invaded beyond the Ukrainian mosquito bite in the arse.

I grew up in the Cold War and watched Reagan own Gorbachev in Reykjavik. Celebrated the wall coming down. Not saying they’re our allies, but it’s a different time.

Russia would be a fantastic ally if our established political class didnt so desperately need a contrived enemy

I have no problem with Russians have pride in their country. I have a problem with Russia invading a neighboring country and killing Lord knows how many. I also have a problem with the inane assertion that someone besides Putin is responsible for rolling the tanks into Ukraine.

Wow, another definition to hide behind. Soon, "false equivalence" will be replaced.

Russia is gonna take a long time getting over cultural diseases caused by communism. The rich people in the USSR were the government officials. They were stealing from 'the working man'. That culture of political corruption still exists in the former Soviet states. Zelensky is not atypical.

The American elite were definitely smarter about how they stole from their working class. If you inflate the money supply and are able to divert the majority of that new money supply to yourself and your coastal elitist friends, then youve effectively stolen from the working class while giving them the illusion of prosperity

Russia is swimming in resources that every single one of their neighbors need or would like to have. If one country were to ever get desperate (think Germany......it's happened twice already) and made their move on Russia, the others would swarm like Hyenas. Russia has at one time or another taken land from every single neighbor. Japan, China, Finland and a host of others have lost territory in Russia's expansionist wars. Russia lacks the manpower to defend such wide-open territory, so they have to get back to somewhat geographically defensible borders. Their only other option is nuking everyone around them if they're attacked.

I’ve been St. Petersburg. Russia has its zits but you won’t see more beautiful women anywhere in the world. Every 3rd girl is a Victoria’s Secret model.

Depends on the generation. Millennials grew up with American culture and this idealized vision of the West, and the US in particular. You see that with older Zoomers too.

I think the quality of life is better in Russia though, and ordinary people have more disposable income than Americans.

It is possible some of their neighbors eventually bend the knee because they don't have the resources. Russia is blessed to be able to blackmail other countries because they are rich in resources.
