re: Russia has outlined what is needed for a ceasefire with Ukraine

Biden fricked these negotiations when he went overboard on sanctions. There is nothing else to take from Russia. Zelensky would have gotten a much better deal 2 years ago. Now Russia is clearly winning and why would they concede anything? They are going to take Odessa and cut off Ukraine from the Black Sea. Ukraine royally fricked itself listening to Boris Johnson and the Ukraine Bros.

Sounds like it’s inevitable then, may as well kill as many Russians as possible in the process.

Ukraine is free to make that decision but the US will not be a part of it

Russia won't follow their side and will just resume hostilities covertly immediately and openly in 4-6 years.
Russia has already won via force what they have requested in that settlement.
Absent ground intervention meaning WW3 we cannot change that.
The Donbas and crimea are ethnically and culturally Russian and voted as such during their last democratic election.
Ukraine isn’t a NATO member.
Given those factors we don’t have to like it but this is the best Ukraine can hope for right now and absent Nuland and the neocons telling everyone Ukraine was going to join NATO none of this would’ve ever happened.

People are downvoting but yeah, "demilitarize Ukraine" would make them a sitting duck.
Sounds like they should have taken that deal 7 days after the conflict began. Dumb assery has consequences

Well, the alternative is a demilitarized Ukraine, anyway. The difference is: if this continues, the military won’t exist because there will be no money and all the young men will be dead.
It’s up to them.
If they decide to surrender they will have to accept the consequences. They might rather die than lose their nation. Nations do that you know, fight for their survival.

What’s to say Ukraine would honor?
A ceasefire would allow them to also regroup.
And if ultimately there is no peace deal, what do you want us to do?

Ukraine is in an unwinnable war. Spend less time worrying about Putin and his balls and figure out a way to end the war. Yes it sucks russia has all the leverage. Doesn’t change the fact the Russia has all of the leverage. No need to lose one more Ukrainian life.

That's not a negotiation position. That's a capitulation. That would make us the biggest chumps ever as a broker on behalf of......anybody. The entire onus is on Ukraine. They stop fighting, they pull back, they get emasculated militarily.....with no concessions from the Russians other than they'll stop shooting for now.

Except recent history shows it's the opposite bub. Ukrainians were the instigators in the donbas regions against russian speaking living there.

I have no idea how to measure "denazify"
Posted on 3/13/25 at 8:24 am to hawgfaninc
I'd want to quibble about #2 = "no peacekeepers in Ukraine" - cannot trust the Putin that much.

Seems reasonable
Really???

Ukraine is denazified/demilitarised
Ukraine is not NAZI. This means Putin wants a submissive government like Belarus.
Demilitarized? Putin wants a pushover for his 3rd invasion.
quote:
No NATO membership for Ukraine - No NATO "peacekeepers" in Ukraine
Putin is using the buzzword NATO to reinforce the Russian sycophant’s favorite blame Ukraine trope.
The US will not allow NATO mutual defense doctrine extension to Ukraine. But why not allow Western peace keeping like US forces in Korea? Simple, Putin wants a pushover for the 3rd invasion.
quote:
4 Donbass regions recognised as Russian territories plus Crimea
Putin wants to lock in his gains and be able to militarize his conquered territories! So he can easily kick off his 3rd invasion of the unprotected demilitarized Ukraine after catching his breath.
This is like breaking into a woman’s house and attempting rape. She puts up an effective fight. So now you agree to leave if she gives up her knife (demilitarization), agrees not to get a pit bull (NATO), and gives him a key (De-NAZI).
Sounds reasonable? No!
But negotiations have to start somewhere, and I wouldn’t expect Putin to start giving away his desires this early.

Why ever would Ukraine demilitarize with a revanchist Russia on its borders?
Posted on 3/13/25 at 8:27 am to hawgfaninc
I honestly don't think this dog will hunt.
His demands are an overreach and show exactly what concerns/frightens him.
NATO has already openly shared its support for Ukraine to be part of NATO, and supports its inherent right to defend itself per UN Charter (Article 51).
The 2023 Vilnius and 2024 Madrid Summits also show NATO's views on Ukraine being a member.
Europe is super defiant to everything Russia and United States right now. The EU will embolden Zalinsky to continue to waffle on negotiations.

Curious on how this one will play out. I figured the no NATO stuff would already be in the agreement, but wondering if it will be agreed to give Russia land they don't currently occupy.
Posted on 3/13/25 at 8:31 am to hawgfaninc
I think 3 of the 4 asks are reasonable. Asking them to demilitarize with no security guarantees is not a serious offer of peace
