re: Remind me: what was the general vibe on the eve of the 2020 election?

I just remember how wrong the polls were on the mid terms in ‘22

Lots of denial. Polls looked like Trump had no chance but Covid so no one believed them

I went to bed thinking Trump won handily. Then in the wee hours of the night the dems raised the dead and summoned scores of phantoms and did their massive vote dumps for Biden. It was blatant fraud on a massive scale.
This year I'll watch network TV. If they are on the verge of tears, I'll know Trump is winning.

Weeks before the election I was pretty confident. On the eve of the election I was very concerned because every news outlet was telegraphing what they were going to do. It was creepy,

Queasiness because of the betting markets, it didn’t match up with the signs.

I figured Trump would lose. People had "2020 fatigue" and unfortunately DJT was lumped in with it. I thought Biden's campaign persona of the "kind old grandpa" was actually pretty brilliant and the perfect counter.

Because of Trump’s success and Biden’s non-existent campaign, I thought we had it. Then 3:00 a.m. hit.

he polls were heavily skewed towards Biden.
We knew the polling was bad.
Trump was winning bigly when 4 states colluded to stop counting votes for the night. But they continued counting in private.
With covid, 2020 was never like this.
And the Democrats were warning Trump not to declare victory early since they knew they are loading up with the number of mail-in ballots they would need to win in each of the contested states.

I remember thinking that there was no way Biden could win in 2020 bc he campaigned from his basement, had people show up and sit in these ridiculous circles, the honking car thing. People just didn’t seem excited either way.
In 2020 I remember thinking that the polls looked bad, and I was actually more concerned about the polls in 2020 bc of the general trend of things. I just could not understand the Biden appeal, and so I just ignored it.
It’s weird bc for whatever reason, I honestly thought Trump would win in ‘16. I grew up around people that were the classic ignored “deplorables” and could just tell from watching the media that there was no effort to even understand Trump’s appeal to these forgotten Americans. I didn’t start freaking out in ‘16 till after the polls closed and the news started giving all the exit poll info. But then I stayed up all night for the most glorious meltdown in history.
One thing I definitely do not remember feeling when I went to bed in 2020 was confident. I am not a person who remembers feeling like Trump was winning before I went to bed. I remember Baier calling Arizona and smelling a rat and having a really sick feeling.
The 2020 election was not free nor fair, and I’ll never pretend otherwise.

Millions of that record mail in ballots they collected will be the deceased voting.

2020 had BLM riots and Covid hysteria to demoralize the weak minded.
We also saw the massive junk ballot fraud in real time with all of the states changing the rules last minute and the media scaring people from leaving their homes.
There is none of that this year.

A month before the election, Bloomberg ran an article quoting a Democratic operative to beware of a “Red Mirage” which basically telegraphed the steal. It said Trump would appear to be heavily ahead on Election night and “when all mail in ballots are counted” that “Democrats would pull ahead”.

The word landslide was used a lot which needs to never be said again.

You can always search it.
But I was here. People were overall generally positive and/or cautiously optimistic. People were greatly distressed by the fraudulent results, rightfully so. After Biden was installed, the "Unraveling Threads" thread was erased from existence.
Some of us were warning that a steal was happening, especially once the "counting stopped" in key locations after Faux News called AZ for Harris. Those people who were raising the alarm back then are the same people raising the alarm now. A slightly dripping urinal flusher handle caused an entire massive facility to "shut down" and stop counting ballots, but the only people that left were conservative poll watchers, and the "counting" never stopped. Maricopa, Clark, Fulton and other prime critical areas still have 2020 election issues that have yet to be properly addressed, and likely never will.
I'll be the first to say I'm doing my part and will vote and bring others with me. I'm also praying for a fair and accurate result. But realistically, I'm fully expecting another stolen election. 100%. If I'm wrong, I'll post an apology thread and eat my crow happily.

Trump had a uphill battle
Posted on 11/3/24 at 1:14 pm to Hamma1122
Joshua Chamberlain gave us hope
Posted on 11/3/24 at 1:14 pm to Hamma1122
We hoped Trump would increase his vote total and if you told on the night before he would have gotten 75 million votes we would take it.
Nobody saw the amount of fraud coming that would produce 81 million votes for Biden.
I’m convinced without fraud Trump won the popular vote by 4 million.

Trump was down in almost all the polls (outside of Rasmussen and Trafalgar), but I think most of us assumed that because Biden had no real campaign or enthusiasm that Trump would end up winning. I think the shoe is on the other foot this year. Dems are having to explain away a lot of polling logic.

The mood was generally good until the exploding water pipes at 2 am. And the closed off ballot drop locations at 4 am where paper was taped to windows so observers couldn’t watch what was going on.
