Since checks went the way of the dodo bird (except for the extreme elderly) I don't recall ever having to produce an ID to buy groceries under any payment method. Where do you live???

Maybe in small town Louisiana when they have to take it back and physically copy it to a piece of paper

What is this "paper" you speak of? We still scribe things in stone.

Yeah I call bullshite unless you buy a lot of booze or look like a guy who steals debit cards.

I’ve never been carded just to buy every day things with a debit card unless I purchase age restricted things.

Did trump misspeak? Yes. Is it even remotely a big deal? No.

Trump should be impeached for using a poor example while freewheeling at a rally

Pretty much. I just use cash nowadays. Haven't had any problems with a possibility of ID theft.

That was because they could see your van in the parking lot with the aluminum foil over the windows

Saying you "literally" never had to show your ID is a lie. Saying you show it everywhere is a lie was well. While on vacation this year I had to show it multiple times because I was in a tourist area. Sometimes I get asked to show my ID when I make large purchases as well. Stop being poor and get out of your moms basement.

The funny part is you probably got IDd for large purchases because you look like you can’t afford it.

I didn't think about this. People with lower credit scores tend to have Discover cards. They probably ask for ID every time

Seriously, aside from buying booze and cigars, I've never been ID'd to use a credit/debit card

Super glue, can o air, spray paint.

But yeah... for the vast majority of purchases you don’t. Hell, I have one of my grandpas cards with his name on it to use when I’m getting shite for him or doing family business. It’s a credit card. Not a debit card. And a completely different name on it and I’ve never been carded and I’ve spent thousands at a time on it

Or don't feel like wasting everyone's fricking time on bullshite. I've never been asked to do this one time. I don't know what kind of ghetto you live in where this should be implemented.

Sooo, everything I have charged on this new card is INVALID.

I do not have to pay it and it is not chargeable against ME on credit report or with the issuer.

The fault is with the merchant(s) for not abiding by their merchant agreement with the issuer.

1)This "Ghetto" is one YOU are a part of making by not insuring proper and legal requirements are met regarding transactions.
2)ID theft is still a growing problem because people like YOU do not take part in ending it by simple ID.
3)Even online transactions require a form of ID by requiring knowing information such as billing/shipping address that corresponds to credit issuer records as well as other information that you are actually bypassing by NOT having an ID check at a physical point of purchase.
4)Retailers in violation of their merchant agreement can be fined, prohibited, and the agreement terminated by credit issuers thus ending the convenience and causing business to close as their customers go elsewhere.
5) retailers NOT enforcing the ID requirements enable crime and thus encourage criminal activity on their premises. (congrats on creating your own ghetto!)

Never had an issue with my corporate card. Then again I don't look like someone who would steal a credit card.

People do, frequently, have to show ID when they buy groceries. This isn't even debatable.

Unless booze and tobacco are involved, where? I’ve lived in 9 states and I’ve never been asked this once.

It's sad you feel the need to attack me for stating a fact you don't what to accept. I wonder what past trauma caused this condition?

Only time I have to show my ID is when I'm buying alcohol. Where do you shop that they don't have chip reading devices?

Beer, wine, liquor, cigarettes, and many shelf medications require ID to purchase and are all in grocery stores
