That's misleading. 78.4 (actually 77.5 as of 2022) is life expectancy...at birth. If you take as a given that someone lives to 70, the actuarial tables show something like 85 as their life expectancy from there (84 for men, 86 for women).

15 years of SS doesn't seem unreasonable to me.

means test. So someone who has over $1 million in cash assets, as an example, might have their SS Benefits severely reduced.
