re: Rand Paul says the true cost of the tariffs is $2 trillion in taxes

I'm all for Tariffs if they help onshore and grow domestic industry and production. But I've yet to hear from someone how they are not a tax. They are in fact a tax, that the company will pass off in cost to the consumer. I think the point, as Trump as said it, is to make American made products competitive by raising the cost of those made cheaply over seas. We'll also have to see if the domestic producers don't raise cost as well.
The right can't just wish the truth of this away no more than the left can wish the failure of socialism away.

United States Court of International Trade (CIT) is going to save Trump from himself when they declare he can't impose tariffs, only Congress can do this. He'll bitch and moan and play the victim, it will be good for him politically but he'll wash his hands of any bad news that may come from it and if things are good, he'll claim credit as they all do when in office.

Tariffs are legitmate taxes. Income taxes are theft (even if Congress has the ability to tax using the 16th Amendment). I would rather pay $1,000,000 per year in tariff costs than $0.01 in income taxes.
Now, you get to pay both.

A lot of the low cost retail manufacturing is long gone in the US. It will never come back. Clothing, toys, electronics and other products that can be done cheaply overseas, is going to stay overseas.
The larger item manufacturing could remain or even come back but it won’t likely be because of the tariff situation. Investing in a manufacturing plan requires a stable forecast for 10+ years to get a decent return on investment. We simply don’t have that. Trump keeps jumping around on the amounts, extending deadlines and then there’s the fact that trump can only be president for another 3 years so lots of unknowns.

the Panican free trade dream is a canard.
We can absolutely have free trade with nations who have similar labor laws, worker protections, and monetary policy as us. We can absolutely cut deals with countries who need natural American resources, especially when they can reciprocate with resources we cannot produce domestically.
However, dealing with countries that engage in child labor, toxic materials, rancid pollution, currency manipulation, IP theft, etc. is NOT free trade. They are using tactics completely illegal in the US to undercut direct domestic competitors who are forced to follow the rules. This is NOT free trade.

Paul: "Conservatives have to decide..."
Me: "There are practically no conservatives left, and the ones of us that are left decided back in 2016 that we didn't want tariffs when it was just Bernie Sanders and Trump campaigning for them. We haven't changed our minds.
We don't have to decide anything. It's the bandwagon Huckster Carlson populists that need to decide."

Sellers raise prices and promise to lower them when they can, but prices never go back down. Everyone gets richer except the consumer.

Tariffs are not “cool”. We don’t make certain types or we have to import the supples to make the medication.
But we just sit back while other countries tariff our products, right?
How about if everything was 0 across the board, across the whole globe then?

Can't wait until y'all fully embrace unions.
