Why Republicans have allowed this to continue is beyond me.
Because they always used the same argument against cuts: 'We're only 0.01% of the federal budget.' Trump realizes that when you cut hundreds of govt agencies you're getting into real money saving.

but NPR and PBS provide valuable service to smaller communities that otherwise would lack independent news and cultural programming.
Maybe that was true 30-40 years ago but everyone has the internet now even in the poorest regions. There is no service they provide that is necessary anymore. No one listens to the them that isn't 70+
Also - Both agencies have veered into woke DNC Pravda like agencies so now they are in the cross-hairs. They are about as unbiased as the MSM, maybe worse.

I’m not going to waste posts and time arguing the point on this board, but NPR and PBS provide valuable service to smaller communities that otherwise would lack independent news and cultural programming. If someone honestly listens to both services with an open mind, know that all sides are given coverage.
1. Independent journalism is a thing.
2. lol at “all sides are given coverage”. More like, the leftist view is preached ubiquitously and a few facts supporting the conservative view are blended in but only mentioned to speciously act like the story is balanced. Purely local stories may be different, but see no. 1.
Uncle Sam shouldn’t reach into our pockets to pay for public “news”. It’s 2025 after all. Information is freely available everywhere online.

RINO's have been promising this along with closing the border and deporting the invaders for 30 years.
They always talked a great game (to get elected of course) but never actually followed through on anything.
That’s why they’re on the outside looking in now…..spiteful and pouting about it but never taking a look in the mirror.

Not only that, but it’s the very money funding the many-headed hydra. Kill that money and you have destroyed the fountainhead.

Oh, both sides are given "coverage" alright. It's just the extreme slant given toward one side that's the problem.

I have listened to NPR many times, because I wanted to decide for myself based on my own observations whether what you say here is true. I can say without reservation that what you say is false. NPR does not provide balanced political coverage on all issues. They are biased towards the political Left Wing and Globalist Agenda.
This is why they have forfeited the privilege of spending US tax dollars.
Now, whether NPR actually goes away, I sincerely doubt it, because Congress won't act to get rid of it and the courts will stop Trump from getting rid of it.
Trump is on his own in Wash DC. You should relax. All your side has to do is to run the clock out on Trump. His MAGA Movement might die after the mid-term congressional elections and most probably will die after Trump leaves office.
You know that everybody in the world wants Trump to be gone, except for the Americans who voted for him, and, since when do the peasants of any country really decide who rules them?
Additionally, many of those who voted for Trump will be propagandized into changing their minds about him as time goes on.

BREAKING: President Trump To Fully Defund NPR and PBS!
I'll allow it.
They both have some programming that I enjoyed on occasion (Austin City Limits, etc.), but since the infrastructure will still be there, maybe the libs can pay for it since it's their baby politically. I'm sure they will step up.

but it isn’t independent…. in fact it is the opposite of “independent” ….. and it’s disingenuous to suggest otherwise

How in the frick does a talk radio station spend over a billion dollars in a year? I’ve been in radio for 20 years and this is insane. It’s not expensive to run a 24 hour talk radio station. That’s fricking absurd

Spot on. I've been listening to NPR for 30 years now. When they had the Click and Clack Brothers etc.
I still listen every single weekday morning while I'm getting ready, as it's the only radio "news" station I can catch. The Market Place report is still somewhat good.
How they can say with a straight face that they are independent, fair, and balanced is beyond me. The very few times they do present a conservative counterpoint, it is dripping with derision and contempt. Not only substantively, but in the tone of their TDS infected voices.

If only more never Trumpers and self proclaimed conservatives could understand this.
