The UN, EU, and US had an agreement with Russia not to expand NATO into former USSR satellite country in excess for reunification of East and West Germany. We violated that agreement.

We also overthrew Ukraine’s president for Zelenskyy in 2014. It was a CIA/MI6 operation. Russia seized Crimea.

We entertained letting Ukraine in NATO if they met the criteria to do so. Russia invaded in 2021.

We poked the bear. What don’t you understand?

Well for one thing we would have several billion dollars that we don't have now. How about that? Pretty sure that without our money and material, whatever was going to happen in Ukraine would have happened a couple of years ago. Also pretty damn certain that if Putin wanted Ukraine, he could have rolled a couple hundred thousand troops with several thousand tanks across there in about 6 months.
