Educated people over babied their children to the point of millions of young adults having major Peter Pan syndrome. I’ve worked with young attorneys that are scared to talk to people on the phone. It’s embarrassing.

Some married couples actually make a reasoned decision not to have children. They prefer to avoid the financial burden, and they want the freedom to pursue busy careers or travel and do other things that would be much more difficult with the added responsibility of raising children. You may not agree with their choice, but everyone is different, and, so far, it’s a free country…

You make a great point. Makes a person wonder what will society look like when upwards of 20-30% of current jobs are being performed by AI, automation and robotics in the next 10-15 years? Hell, it could be more than 20-30% in the next 10-15 years.

I believe fewer couples would make that choice if it weren’t so punishing financially or as taxing on their time. Those couples are making a rational economic decision. My goal would be to introduce reforms that change the economic calculus so that decision becomes less rational for more couples. I want this done via carrot, not stick.

backwards, nowadays unless the man has a really good job paying job (or a woman on welfare with 20+ kids with no daddy), life is too expensive in places with the most jobs to have this happen (among other non-economic related issues).
I had my wife do stay at home for three years, then it became too much after about a year into the second kid
It also helps if you have good family support around where the jobs are.

No we won’t. Human society has gone through massive paradigm shifts before. The agricultural revolution, Industrial Revolution, electronic revolution. We’ve always evolved through it and need to to increase population to serve the economy and society

You can live in a 1300 square foot house, rent until you are in your late 30s while you save up to buy, stop with the unnecessary purchases, streaming services, eating out/ordering in, buy used cars cash, forget about ridiculous things like travel ball for your kids, limit vacations to every few years, etc., etc., etc.
Viola! Just as affordable as the 70s.
