No people dont have kids because of financial issues.
And poor people dont give a shite they will popem out non stop.
Make having and raising kids w/ a quality of life more affordable and you will see people have more children.

You do realize certain groups that love Sharia law are NOT having declining birth rates. You don't see that as a "problem" when they start getting into political power?

That is ignoring healthcare strains, having to claw back underutilized infrastructure, housing market crash. There is plenty out there that breaks it down. Whether you think those issues are really a problem may be up for debate. Some think it is worth it to have massive economic contraction.

They are, but I feel like it's crazy overstated. This leads to people not even attempting ot have children until much later in life than before, and in part due to this new time constraint, people have less kids.

Raising kids is tough, but as a society we instill in young people (high school kids) that having sex and getting pregnant might as well be worse than death, so many young people feel they have to be rich rich before even considering it. They've been told all their lives that having an unplanned pregnancy is just about the worst outcome you can have in life. That's hard to shake.

Imagine a world where a two income household wasn’t a thing. Prices would come down because nobody would be able to afford 2 cars, 4 iPhones and 8 streaming services if the norm was single income households.

there is a very clear negative correlation between government incentives and birth rates.

The countries that give the most benefits and provide the most welfare for new moms/new families have some of the lowest birthrates.

There are countries that have free healthcare, free childcare, free school, YEARS of paid time off for care of newborn/infants and all of that led to a FURTHER declining birthrate.
Chicken or Egg?

LBJ's WOP policy supporting/rewarding out-of-wedlock births sure as hell tore a hole in US indigent families.

Implying the reverse couldn't occur, is illogical

The problem isn’t that the population is lower. The problem is that the population becomes OLDER. Older people can’t work and need younger people to take care of them. When old people outnumber young people, it causes a population death spiral which takes multiple generations to possibly spin itself out of because the younger generations get so overburdened carrying the older generations that they cannot afford to have enough kids for their next generation, which repeats the cycle.

Part of it is cultural. Boomer and silent generation parents would kick their kids out of the house and tell them not to come back until the streetlights came on. Older millennials and gen xers were often latchkey kids whose parents were always working.

However, in the past 20 years, culture became extremely paranoid about unsupervised children. Kids stopped being allowed to walk places by themselves. Parents would get the cops or CPS called on them for letting their kids go to the park alone. Kids were expected to be chaperoned at all times. This requires helicopter parents who schedule every minute of their child’s day and are their kid’s sole vehicle for interacting with the world outside their home.

This development has been incredibly damaging to both children and parents, and must be reversed. This forces parents to either be helicopters micromanaging every second of their kids’ lives or to pawn them off on ipads and technology to distract and pacify their kids long enough for their parents to be able to literally focus on anything else. Parents of zoomers and gen alpha are expected to spend a lot more time and labor on a daily basis parenting their kids than did previous generations, and the penalties for not doing so are jail time and/or the government stealing your kids from you to probably give to abusive pedos in the foster system.

I don't disagree with that.

Or we could pursue government policies that promote responsible people having children, instead of taxing and shaming young adults to the point of misery and hopelessness.

I guess before birth control only irresponsible people had children unexpectedly.

Think there is one trillionaire that didn't need an incentive to have kids.

The only thing is that he is spreading his seed like Johnny Appleseed in fertile women everywhere.

Banning Hollywood and all of Zuckerberg's platforms would be more effective.

Are there any leading theories as to why the culture in America has shifted this way?

Idk if I’m part of the problem (my oldest is 5) but when I take him to the park I’ll see 12 kids on the playground and 16 parents watching like hawks.

The drugs are only a small part of the equation.

Young people are not having sex nearly as much as previous gens.

What do you think this country looks like when there are a shite load of expensive, old and unproductive people and very very few young people who are innovating and producing?

That problem that will solve itself within the next 20 years when 70-80% of the Boomers have passed. The most serious problem the US is facing is remaining a constitutional republic as the popularity of Democratic Socialism/Marxism continues to rise, followed closely by multi trillion dollar budget deficits.

I feel the same about legal immigration. (Let alone illegal). No one explains WHY we need it. The answer is, of course, cheaper wages for big corporations. It seems the socialists would agree with us conservatives on this issue (worker's rights and all that), but they don't.

In my opinion this is a net positive. Have you seen half the population today? They are retarded, autistic, blue hair freaks. Those people are already a burden to taxpayers. Just look at Roger for proof of that. The offspring of these losers will be a burden to taxpayers for their entire lives.

And what happens ~10 years after that when the biggest generation in history starts retiring en masse/declining productivity with no historically gigantic generation coming up behind them to support them and the rest of society?
