Title says it all:
After someone is convicted of a felony, after they serve their sentence, should they be able to own a firearm and vote, or is the felony label a scarlet letter they should wear forever?

Do we believe in redemption, and are forgiving of other neighbors transgressions, or is the conviction permanent?

I believe they can petition to have their rights restored and some do. I'm good with that.

I have a friend who got busted and later did just that.

Not all felons are equal

Some should, some shouldn’t

The right to own a gun is fundamentally rooted in the right of self defense. That need doesn’t end for felons who are not in jail. If that right is taken away, in my opinion, the state accepts the obligation to keep that person safe, until they restore that right.

I don’t think voting is nearly as serious an issue.

After they complete their complete sentence including probation, they should have the right to petition.

If they are in good standing, they should.

Do they pay taxes?

If so then. Yes.

If you are a freeloader than you should have no voting rights.

Cant wait for all the “shall not be infringed” people to come in here and say “no”.

Time served. I have no problem with that.

I wonder if any of them are aware that they voted Democrat in 2020?

I've got mixed views on this. I don't know the law so maybe someone can expand on this.

I think a convicted felon should be able to get his rights back if they pay their debt to society. This is my sticking point, if a felon is convicted of a violent crime involving a firearm then I think they should lose the right to own a gun forever.

I'm by no means a gun control advocate and strongly back 2A

Yes. Once all parole and fines have been satisfied, you should get your rights restored.

One size doesn't fit all in this case.
