I think a convicted felon should be able to get his rights back if they pay their debt to society. This is my sticking point, if a felon is convicted of a violent crime involving a firearm then I think they should lose the right to own a gun forever.
Pretty much my feelings.

As it stands, refusing felons the right to petition to have voting rights restored after serving their sentence is unconstitutional. Either amend the constitution, or allow them a process to restore the right to vote.

if non violent yes they should. If they are no longer a threat to society, they should get the same rights as everyone else. Violent felons...no, they proved they can not be trusted.
FTR, as of now if its a state charge and non violent
-voting rights are restored immeditely upon getting off parole/probation
-gun rights restored after 7 years
federal crimes-
-same for voting
-gun rights can never be restored without pardon
for some reason these things are always confusing for some.

Yes.
And anyone who is jail for a victimless crime needs to be released

Yes. If you serve your term you should be a free man with everything that entails.
I feel the same about sex offenders and the registry. Either they are too dangerous to be in public or they aren’t. Once released there shouldn’t be this thing that follows them around for the rest of their lives making it hard to find work/places to live etc.
Incarcerate people and then once released stay out of their lives. Let them them vote.

Violent crimes (rape, murder): should have to petition to get rights reinstated and even then it should be case by case basis.
Non-violent(drugs, money-laundering, etc): should be automatically reinstated after time is served.
That's my thoughts at least
