A fair analysis. I don't fault DeSantis for running. He's the most prominent/successful conservative we have, and you can't blame him for thinking that might matter in a Republican primary.

I don't think the failure of his campaign is all (or even mostly) about him. What has he said or done to turn away millions of GumboPots, who a year ago was posting he hoped Trump didn't even run because DeSantis was so much better?

The interesting thing is that DeSantis entering the race should have, in theory, moved the primary to the right. Candidates moving to either outflank DeSantis to his right or at least taking an equal right position to nullify his conservative positions.

Instead Trump moved left and brought most of the party with him. (Social Security, Medicare, abortion, spending and farm subsidies)

I don't think DeSantis or frankly any conservative imagining Trump having the hold over his base so much that he could turn Republicans into a center-left party.

There are some who will never support Trump. It’s a reality no matter how much support he has. Suburban whites women being critical in the race.

Let’s say Trump gets the nomination and loses pretty convincingly in 2024. What will your response be? “At least we ran the guy that was good at trolling people.”

DeSantis was played by the TDS crowd; he should have stayed on the Trump team and did work. This is the error that rookies are vulnerable to. He should repent and get back on the team and stand ready to pick up the flag if or when the Left takes Trump out. He’s arguably still the 2nd best conservative candidate. Albeit Ron Paul showing up in that ‘robe’ puts him at the top, assuming that pic was real.

You think if Trump wins the first 4 primary states that Desantis will remain in?

DeSantis has made a number of errors. Deciding to run wasn’t one of them. Thinking Republican voters would be persuaded by reason was one of them.

DeSantis should pull out and focus on FL. This is not his time.

I wonder if he’s figured out yet that the people pushing him didn’t care one bit about actually winning a primary. I wonder more, if he’s figured out how badly they’ve even failed horribly at what their goals actually were.

Quite sad either way.

He's the guy they brought in to try to cuck the guy that cucked them.

Who could have foreseen that Ron peaked too early and pissed off the people that he himself said shouldn't be pissed off? Everyone here without a Rhonda body pillow, and who were accused of being cultists by cultists when we didn't follow them to their new cult.

It is sad that the most conservative candidate in decades is being push to the side by a carnival barker.

It would depend on how he ran his campaign. But I would conclude that he did not present a vision of what America would look like under him that resonated with the voters. He’s not doing that now. Trump has sucked the oxygen out of the room and DeSantis isn’t doing anything of note to change that.

I’ll note that your response doesn’t put any fault for Trump’s hypothetical loss with Trump and instead focuses on DeSantis. Which is par for your posting style.

Are you suggesting DeSantis was pro-tax equity, pro-do nothing about entitlement spending, less anti-woke at some point? I don't think you understand what's happened on the bandwagon you have a seat on.

Do you seriously believe Trump is conservative? Granted, he's conservative in comparison to Biden, but then so is RFK.

Trump's strategy seems to be ingratiating himself with the independents and disappointed Democrats. There is a rightward shift in response to the Left going too far. Trump is there to cast the widest net, and his strength in his head-to-head polls against Biden is shoring up his base in the primary as well in the process.

If you're still worried about what he's saying in courting the center, then you're either new to politics or blinded by your hormones for Rhonda.

Trump's actions mean more than anything:
No wars.
THREE fairly solid conservative SCOTUS appointments in a single term.
Enormous economic growth.
