Some professor did an analysis and it would take a decade and cost like $50 billion. C/b analysis was Iranians would set the tolls at rates that would ultimately keep it from happening.

It looks narrow, but a while back I tried to roughly measure the peninsula width at the narrowest point controlled by UAE. It appeared to be about 50 miles, which is about the length of the panama canal.
