The social revolution of the late 60s + reaction to Vietnam led to the 70s, which produced lots of major work more Left than what we see today.
That was arguably the last days of an actual intellectual left.

Moving to a more advanced, liberal society is why slavery became outlawed.
Funny how the most advanced societies throughout human history all enslaved those they thought inferior. Progressives are the same just not with whips and chains now it’s monetary dependence on the State. They are no less controlled now than in previous forms of slavery.

It was also the last days of the major auteur directors.
Spielberg and blockbusters stormed in with the cultural shifts in the post-Vietnam, economic advancement era of the late 70s/80s.
I only bring this up b/c of the new FFC movie and all the crazy stories about it's production coming out. Clearly a director/man of a different era

Movies also influence cultural trends
If someone that has never seen TV advertisements watched TV for 3 hours today, they would think only black people bought insurance, pharmaceutical products, and fast food.

The modern waves of feminism destroyed the intellectual left.
Its an emotion based philosophy, regardless of educational attainment.
THe left replaced intellectualism with credentialism.

frick off hollywood. Movies should be there to entertain us not teach us progressive lessons and agenda. Make more movies like Top Gun Maverick and everyone will go to the movies.

I hope we can do better than that

It’s all just so vapid at this point. It’s sort of a perfect reflection of where “the left” is, I guess.

The modern left is stuck in a phase of suspended adolescence.
There is nothing "Intellectual" about it.

Due to editorial decisions, the Movie TV board is no longer a place for politics. So to help ownership with this effort, I'm posting a politically-themed article that is tangential to movies, which belongs on here.
No one should participate in MTV Board conversation on the PT. This does not belong here.

A Hollywood actor that lives in Italy just took out a sitting President from running for reelection.
They aren’t going to move right. They are going to go even further left.

You're saying this about Oscars?
The Oscars are widely considered the most prestigious award a movie or actor can get. The most popular way for a layperson to know “what are the best movies of all time” is to be directed to a list of Oscar winning films. The most popular way for a lay person to know “who are the best actors of all time “is to be directed to a list of Oscar winning actors. They are absolutely the gatekeepers and king makers of movie success.

Agree. The OP is little more than a lie.
They will move further left as Hollywood is a propaganda arm of progressivism.

Every year there are many worthy of praise in acting. the Oscar is not always the best.
Posted on 7/28/24 at 8:56 am to RogerTheShrubber
The OP just wants to be contrary.
I probably shouldn’t oblige him but it’s raining like a sumbitch and there isn’t anything on TV that isn’t gay.

The line is a woman saying "we keep getting more and more tornadoes, and more floods." Thats it. That's the only line.
I think the point of that line is that mom didn’t run away. She dealt with weather and increasing prices. (Don’t forget that part of her statement) The daughter bailed on everyone after one event.

So they admit they were trying to propagandize us with their woke shite and now they are saying, it’s time to get back to making money.

I found your framing issue.

For boomers, maybe.

Your silly "point" was silly. That was the implication.

Agreed. Just like the Grammy is rarely the best music. But the prestige, future notoriety, and longevity is awarded to the winners of the Oscars and Grammys.

We are not discussing the quality of the movies, but the politics and economics of the movies.
