Nottoway Plantation to be Rebuilt in Exact Form with References to Its Slavery Past

The owner has initiated a massive donor-funded rebuild of Nottoway aimed to be completed in 2029. Plans are for an exact reconstruction with additions to acknowledge slavery.
My wife and I have frequented Nottoway over the years and attended several weddings there. I am pleased to see it rebuilt in a manner that includes everyone’s perspective and acknowledges the full scope of Louisiana’s history.
I won’t link the gofundme as to not violate website rules, but it’s easily locatable on the internet.
“I am naturally anti-slavery. If slavery is not wrong, nothing is wrong.”
-Abraham Lincoln
Not that either party condones slavery, but Lincoln was a Republican.

-Enslaved Peoples' Memorial: Plans include a dedicated memorial honoring the enslaved individuals who originally built and labored on the plantation in 1859.
-Unification Center: A new educational center will be established on-site to openly acknowledge and confront the history of chattel slavery.

I would use this as leverage in the midterms. Support shows the world that the GOP supports acknowledgment and not erasure of history (as democrats have done with statues).
It’s a win/win.
It’s a win/win.

It’s pretty wild that people are going to pay to rebuild his business. At least Mike Andersen maintains top notch fire insurance for his mishaps.

Nobody cares about this
Rebuilding a plantation home is the last thing on anyone’s mind

I visited it many many years ago. An Australian bought it from the last remaining relative who he agreed could live there til death. She was well into her 80s and ran a gift shop in the basement. There was a young girl who sat there and glanced up at the old woman from time to time.
I asked the guide about her. She said the old lady told the new owner she wanted to live there til she died AND she did not want to have to quit smoking. So he hired "watchers" like the young girl to catch any ashes that might fall off her lighted cigarettes.
He sold the place some years ago, I guess the new owners did not take such care with fire prevention, what a shame.

No kidding. There is no leverage to be had here.
What's the angle? We're rebuilding this plantation home and remember that Lincoln was a republican from the 19th century?

The left sorely needs this Racism Resurrection Project.

Mrs Owens
Lived in the basement and would not let anyone go upstairs. Had to be eerie.

They should build it with prison slave labor just for authenticity.

It’s just another lost landmark I would use to judge time as a kid on the way to my Grandmothers house in Plaquemine.

I bet the labor cost to build it this time is a whole lot more.

Do we know if there are any monuments in Russka (Old Russia) related to the slaves of Ghengis Khan? If not, why? They were certainly treated far more horribly.
