I guess the city council likes Calvin Duncan more than Chelsey Richard Napoleon, the lady in charge of the new unified Clerk of Court and former Civil Clerk of Court.

No one elected her to this new position that Landry created. He appointed her.

So you’re ok with Landry interferes with local elections as long as it’s in a city you don’t live in but also don’t like?

New Orleans is located in Louisiana. Landry and his administration have jurisdiction over the entire state. Deal with it,

You don’t even understand what happened. You think Landry is king of Louisiana.

Who cares that Landry is interfering with the outcomes of a legitimate election? Why doesn’t everyone care?

Is your problem the actual act of abolishing the office or the timing of it? As in, the State should only abolish an elected office after a full term has ended?
I can see the argument there, just wondering.

Landry didn't create it. The state did so through the proper legislative process.

Why are you so stupid?

How can Houston (Harris County) manage to have one clerk of court but small New Orleans needs two?

Sen. Jay Morris of Monroe, under Landry’s guidance, pushed through unusual legislation to eliminate the position completely — just days before Duncan was scheduled to assume office.

This may have already been covered and I don't feel like wading through 3 pages of, "Did not! Did, too!"

Didn't the Federal Fifth Circuit Court issue an order that Duncan could not assume office the day or two days before he was to be sworn in?

That seems important for this discussion.

Landry, who I didn't vote for, had nothing to do with that order.

Arguably it's not a new position. Merely a reorganization/consolidation of the two positions/departments.

Given the consolidation, it would logically follow that one of the positions would be eliminated and the other would just assume the duties of the eliminated position.

As Chelsey Richard Napoleon was elected in 2018 and has not been challenged since that election, it would follow that she might be the better choice to assume the other duties than someone who would be starting from scratch in the other position.

Probably should have been addressed when the sheriffs departments were combined.

They weren’t planning on eliminating it until Duncan won. Fact.

My problem is with Landry using what amounts to a loophole to quash the outcome of a legitimate election just because he can.

I also have a problem with eliminating judgeships in an already overwhelmed and backlogged court in the name of “efficiency.”

No. This was not the ruling. The ruling wasn’t about Duncan. It was about which court should have jurisdiction over the matter.
