Here are some interesting facts:
Orleans has one judge for every ~14,000 residents, while East Baton Rouge has one for every ~29,000.
The state spends nearly 3.5x more on the Orleans court system than on the East Baton Rouge system, despite EBR having more total filings.
If there is a backlog of cases that outstrips other parishes then the problem is inefficiency - not lack of resources.

Do you have some personal tie to this guy’s case? Jeez

Does Orleans Parish even have online records yet? Louisiana is still somehow stuck in 2002

quote:The optics are NOLA is broke. Orleans Parish Criminal Clerk of Court job is redundant and it was combined with Civil Clerk of Court to save money and make more efficient.
The optics speak for themselves
The city has more employees than needed and has a huge problem since their municipal pension fund is severely underfunded. The city needs less employees, not redundant court systems.

How is the office made more efficient by eliminating the clerk but maintaining his building, office, duties and staff? The lone clerk now has to travel between offices a mile apart. What specifically is more efficient about that?

Which employees aren’t needed?
Only one person was eliminated. His staff all still have jobs. Just Calvin Duncan doesn’t get to take the office he was elected to hold.

and removing judges makes it more efficient how exactly?
ETA: to my knowledge, they are removing judges in criminal courtaccording to seniority. The least senior judges lose their seats. Wouldn’t it make more sense to remove the most senior judges in the name of efficiency? They created the backlogs and have higher salaries.

It’s not overriding. If they were overriding they would be replacing the nola knucklehead with someone of their choosing.
That’s literally what he did.

Wrongggg. Everyone I talk to is ecstatic and want the rest of the city gutted since our taxes on everything are sky high in Nola with ZERO to show for it
Oh and your friends are ecstatic that your life won’t be improved in any meaningful way by this? You just feel good knowing someone else got screwed. I suppose if you can’t derive ecstasy from Schadenfreude, what can someone find to smile about these days?

I still don't understand why Jay Morris is so interested in New Orleans. He must just be a Landry lackey.

It’s only ok to defend professed Republicans who are found guilty of committing felonies.

Bingo. We’ll see how Landry repays him.

I don’t believe that people should be wrongfully convicted? Deep shite huh.his story and what he has accomplished is very impressive. He honestly sounds smarter than your average Orleans elected official.
I don’t care about the consolidation issue outside of that.

No it hasn't.

Ludicrous.
Only about 35% of the registered voters turnout for a Mayor election, but many are infuriated over a CLERK losing his job?
Ludicrous!

quote:Possibly by eliminating the bloat that is Orleans parish government. Obviously there are repetitive jobs that can be eliminated and combined. The lone clerk. LOL, every other parish has one clerk of court for both civil and criminal. In Florida, all counties have one clerk of court.

Was he?
He was in N.O. the night of the murder. Fled to Oregon, where he blamed white people for tracking him down. Told the cops he was being fingered by a white woman for the crime. How did he even know that? How did he even know there was a murder back in N.O.? And why did he suspect cops were even after him?
If he were innocent and all? And wasnt even at the crime scene?
If some random murder happened in my town, why would I flee to another state shortly after? And correctly guess who the one witness was, and tell the arresting officers that I knew the cops were after me? And that since the shooter had gold teeth, I knew I was wrongly convicted because I was the one with gold teeth (btw, the witness was running away so she likely didnt know if the gold tooth guy was the shooter or not)
And he still pled guilty to killing the guy (manslaughter). Why do that if you were "wrongly convicted"? I would just take the good news, and walk, me

I didn’t bring up prison. Someone brought up indictments of powerful people in NOLA government so I brought up convictions of the POTUS.
He’s not in prison because he was elected POTUS.
and you called me a lunatic because I didn’t want to play your incredibly idiotic “she doesn’t even know that the president can’t really do his job from prison” game.
I’m probably the only poster who dgaf if someone has a felony conviction anyway. But I do feel compelled to point out the blatant and persistent hypocrisy here.

The system is BLOATED. They have more people on the payroll than they need. Go out to Jefferson Parish and walk in a parish run office, they have 1/10 the employees and are 1000% more efficient.
But here are some dead weight names for you they can fire..
