It's because the only possible way to achieve egalitarianism is with totalitarianism. All that's happened in the last half century is people around the world who really in their heart of hearts are children of the USSR tried to fiddle around the edges to achieve the same goal. They appreciate it more in Eastern Europe because they struggled for their freedom under German and then Soviet rule.
Western Europe? But for England, we gave them their freedom. They didn't appreciate the lessons needed to develop a free society. They are much more subservient to the state then we are here. Unfortunately, England is going their way also.

This is the same crap that was used against J6ers. Punish the political speech by exaggerating the trespassing and property damage aspects. OMG, the protest was "illegal!"
This is where the gray area of speech rights for alien residents occurs. Many organizations that advise or assist visa applicants/holders advise them that political activism is a danger zone, because they are also subject to immigration law. Furthermore, they tell them that support for and/or association with groups that engage in protests that break the law, particularly while lending moral support to terrorist organizations, risks falling on the wrong side of that gray area. If a resident alien engages in, or encourages protest where people are supporting the ideals of terrorists, even by chanting their slogans or wearing their logos, and especially trespassing, harassing people with opposing views, damaging property, then their speech rights may not include remaining in the country.
To your point, if a resident alien had participated in and encouraged the events of 1/6/2020, they would probably have been afforded very little opportunity to avoid deportation using free speech as a defense, even though that event was solely directed at domestic political affairs.

For a very long time I have personally held the view that the destiny of the Unites States of America is to become the more powerful Totalitarian Radical Leftist Socialist Globalist Oppressive Atheist Dictatorship that ever existed.
That destiny may won't be realized until quite far in the future - after the death by old age of everybody alive today.
