How's it any different than seeing an NP if the doctor is booked up?

NP education is absolute dogshit. They don’t even have to take organic chemistry as a prerequisite and the minimum amount of mandatory clinical hours is 600.

Which is why I want them supervised by doctors, just like these foreign doctors will be

If they are supervised by a licensed physician they are an upgrade over a Nurse Practitioner who will have much less training. Not a bad idea.

My son just going through board certification now. That stuff is no joke. 6 hours of written exams plus 6 hours of oral exams. Can those doctors pass those? I wonder? I guess we will find out.

I really don’t have a problem with this in the short term.

In the long term the answer is to stop admitting so many foreigners and women into our medical schools.

Most foreigners return to their home countries and most women get out of the profession early to raise their families unless they go into practices like OBGYN or pediatrics.

This ties in with the thread I just posted about the “Boy Crisis.” This country has abandoned young men in the name of feminism and inclusion.

Board Certification is different than being licensed. Similar to a CPA, it’s a seal of approval. You can practice without it.

Only work in impoverished areas eh ? I take offense to this. The governor that signed it , everyone that voted for it and their families should be forced to see one of these scholarly baboos as part of their insurance coverage

Trust me, you don’t want to have a non-Board Certified physician. This entire program is truly a disgrace to American doctors.

There is a way that we can use tax policy to attract doctors to underserved communities. Shipping in foreigners is the easy and cheap option though.

I realize that, but many of our physicians are foreign trained already and have no problem passing the exams. This just gets them into place faster under supervision. I worked in healthcare for 40 years and urban areas do not understand rural healthcare. Kids coming out of LSU have no interest in Bunkie, LA. A foreign born doctor would take it.

Tell me you know nothing about medical training without telling me you know nothing about medical training.

What makes you think they are incompetent?

I would say the assumption should be incompetence. What makes you think they are competent? Because they study for and pass "a licensing test?"

Well that will really help the folks they kill.

They have to work under the supervision of a licensed physician.

It's no different than Nurse Practioner. Not near as bad as the original story made it sound.

We've got to be honest with ourselves....
The medical acadamies have gone so woke over the past decade or so, what kind of DEI type doctors are we pumping out here in the States?

TBH, a foreign, non-DEI type , unindoctrinated doctor, that hasn't had big pharma pay them off, mightbe a great option.

Oh theres much more than that:
1) Step 1, 7 hour test
2) Step 2 CK, 7 hour test
3) Step 2 CS: a full day's worth of standardized patient encounters
-- not sure this has returned after COVID tbh. I'm getting old
4) Step 3, 7 hour test

Then there's your specialty board. For me its:
1) Part 1, 7 hour test
2) 6 months worth of sending every single surgery you to for review ("Board Collection")
3) Part 2: 4 hour oral exam with 12 examiners who review 12 of your most "challenging" cases and you must defend what you did while they grill you...

But yes..they take "a licensing exam" and are good to go!
