That isn’t an effective safeguard. Anyone with enough preparation can pass a test, but that cannot take the place of rigorous training a doctor would undergo over years of study at an American or European medical school.

NC has a democrat governor. Democrats put foreigners first and Americans last.

Yeah but Mark Robinson was an edge lord on a message board 20 years ago, so people voted for the dem candidate instead.

I guess the people of rural NC just won't have doctors then.

If you're a medical malpractice lawyer, move to Charlotte NOW.

I wonder how many people commenting here and elsewhere actually went and read the bill?

NC to allow foreign trained dr's to practice with no licensing exams
From the article:

The applicant must demonstrate competency through passing an approved medical licensing exam or specialty board certification recognized by the North Carolina Medical Board.

I guarantee when the doctors make less we won't see insurance premiums drop.

Do rural people not deserve competent medical practitioners? Perhaps we could look at policies in America to make it easier for lower middle class Americans to become doctors. But sending incompetent foreign doctors to tend to the hicks isn’t a progressive policy prescription. It’s shameful.

What makes you think they are incompetent?

Well, that’s the thing, we don’t know since they’ve been educated in the third world.

This thread has boiled down to:

"What if they're not qualified?"

"Well they have to pass an exam and are supervised."

"No!"

I hope you and DeepRig get one of these brilliant healers assigned to your care. I also hope their American sherpa doctor isn’t on duty that day, so you get the full experience.

How's it any different than seeing an NP if the doctor is booked up? And isn't this for rural medicine? What's the worst thing they could be treating, stepped on a rusty nail? Oh no, it might be a Nepalese dude with a certification giving farmer Joe his tetanus booster

We have no idea what type of procedures these doctors will be handling. I doubt administering a tetanus shot is one of them.

I also have grave reservations about the entire nurse practitioner program and the entire field of chiropractic care but that’s a different discussion entirely.

They just caught a nurse recently in the U.S. that had been practicing for years and she was never qualified.

Got caught when she was up for a promotion.

The hospitals and healthcare corporations will love this. They’ll make way more money by not having to pay foreign doctors anywhere near as much as what they pay U.S. licensed doctors. More foreign doctors = cheaper labor and more profits.
