The Lincoln, currently en route to its home port of San Diego, has been deployed for more than 300 days and will likely remain at sea for another two weeks before returning to the United States. The aircraft carrier’s current deployment began on Nov. 21, 2025.
Cao revealed the number of suicide attempts in a letter to Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-New York, responding to questions about the well-being of the Lincoln’s crew. The letter, obtained by USA TODAY, was first reported by CNN.

Soft. Get them out of the service. Imagine what the guys who served at sea in WWII would think. Hell, these people weren’t even under fire.

Zero surprise considering how low the standards were for the military prior to now.

Men went to war knowing they would likely be killed and these people are going on a rampage because they are stuck on a boat for most of a year

The psyches of so many of our citizens are just plain soft. I can understand many in WWII or even thereafter in many wars with blood a daily occurrence for months, but good grief on a ship.
Seems there would be some protocol in the recruitment process to weed these people out. Just for the sake of morale.

It's not, it happens on every cruise. 8 out of 5000 is still too many, but you're dealing with 5000 + people with every conceivable gripe, social ill, and a plethora of personal issues. Also take into account that a major number of these people aren't from the best socio-economic backgrounds. I use to tell my people we're all out here to do a job, just do your job, be accountable, stop the boyfriend-girlfriend bs, and put a lid on the bitching and moaning , it doesn't do anyone any good.
I'd love to see the MAST numbers from this cruise

Is a 10 month deployment really that long? Historically isn't that pretty standard?
If the idea of being on a ship a few months will drive you to suicide I don't think joining the Navy was a particularly good choice.
