Said it’s absolutely a nothing burger.

I am sure you are disappointed that we won't need more shots to combat this.

I saw some people saying acid rain from the burning had ruined their cars 70 miles from the site.
And did you share that story on Facebook?
This is OML-level sky falling shite, bruh. Your posts are certainly different than they used to be.

Dead fish were found in East Palestine, Ohio's Leslie Run stream. It's contaminated with ammonia, oxygen is low, officials have found dissolved gases, excessive nitrogen & phosphorous; & high levels of bacteria. It's downstream from Lake Erie & upstream from the Ohio River
Those factors:
- Excess nitrogen
- Excess phosphorus
- Excess ammonia
- Low dissolved O2
- High levels of bacteria
..are pretty typical for any stream that’s been contaminated by poorly-treated industrial wastewater and/or fertilizer runoff. In fact, there’s no phosphorus in VCM. That sounds more like a typical fertilizer runoff issue.
The EPA report referenced in that Twitter thread is from 2022 and there is a further EPA report documenting issues in that watershed back through at least 2005.
ETA: This is a classic example of “don’t believe most of what you read on Twitter.”

It’s unfortunate that this post will not get the upvotes it deserves.

Perhaps.
Or perhaps that is simply an overly cautious stance by the government.

What’s terrifying is that so much of our water supply comes into contact with poly vinyl chloride every day

Burning vcm will make some HCl acid and a few other chemicals, but all of that shite has dissipated and is gone.
From my limited knowledge, that is my understanding as well for the stuff they intentionally burned off. I think the bigger concern right now is everything that leaked into to ground water and the soil.
Considering the local mandatory evac has ended, I think a national shelter in place is a bit dramatic, but who knows maybe there was more released than is being admitted to.

Any info or identification on who those people are that are saying this?
C'mon dude it's in the OP's post:
"That's what some are people are saying needs to happen."
Seems legit

I can see how that is perceived. If I wanted an echo chamber I would have started this on the Poli board.
I started this because, as I said in my OP, I know guys here probably work around this stuff daily and know about it. It was an effort to ask about it but a few people came in and derailed it into something else because it was a "stout" thread in their eyes.

People are giving you shite because in typical stout fashion you are implying that this is or could be a national disaster necessitating locking down the entire country. You say that the town near the accident site will be destroyed and the water supply will never recover.
That's about as chicken little/OML as it gets.

He probably didn't make it up but a small segment of twitter users (high iq as they are) are claiming that this is the US's Chernobyl so OP is running with that. If you haven't noticed he is BIG on fear/disaster porn.
