My son was getting brainwashed at school and I couldn't articulate an argument.

So I've presented him with a South Park marathon. It's an amazing way to show a teen the bullshite when they just think you're old and don't know what your talking about.
It should be required viewing in today's world.

Depending on what the topic is, you can search on YouTube or Rumble for that topic and then add 'Thomas Sowell' and see if he's commented on it - he's good at concise explanations. That may give you a frame of reference to shape your remarks. Also, there are old Sowell columns and books on the internet, some are free downloads. That might help if you want to address things yourself.

Friend,
This is the most pathetic thing I have read thus far today. Granted, it is only four in the morning, but the idea that you are using a filth production to educate your children is most unsettling. I suggest you start with a Classical education, founded on the Bible. Give him the theological, philosophical, and literary tools he will need to analyze and organize for himself the dilemmas of today’s world.
Yours,
TulaneLSU

Idealistic, but like telling the Republicans not to be mean or cheat when dealing with the Dems. A sure loss.

Depending on the topic, PragerU has some great videos that are really simple for anyone over 10 to understand on a number of subjects.
Also, your rules may be different than ours. But I have told my oldest kid it is ok to question things or challenge the teacher (respectfully) on anything that he either knows to be different or has a different perspective. (Again without being rude or anything like that). I know for him, he kind of enjoys that, and being able to debate ideas.
Ultimately, if you are a conservative, you want your kids to be able to formulate their opinions on their own. Parents should teach them critical thinking skills, objective truth, how to rrad and interpret history in context and time, etc. Once they have that foundation, they will be able to hold onto their beliefs through anything like college, etc. (In fact these experiences may further strengthen these beliefs)

Home school, if possible. Schools have become a cesspool in lots of places.

A fine example of the devolution of society and intellectual curiousity.

Your suggestion of a classical education is valuable, but it is a foundation for a contemporary education, not a replacement of it. And a contemporary education includes the most trenchant commentators. South Park is course, but it is excellent social commentary.

Your list is refined and high idealed.
Sometimes the audience is not William F. Buckley and a more base approach is required.

My Dear Friend,
I too lament the use of a trash production in a lamentable effort to address and rectify a woeful shortcoming. The ability to form and communicate arguments is an art and your mind must be trained. Schools could help. It is a travesty that more high schools do not invest more time into their speech and forensics departments to teach students arts like debate whether it be team debate or the Lincoln/Douglas one on one style. Or extemporaneous speech wherein they give you a topic and you have 90 minutes to prepare. Or just plain speech where the teacher would assign you a topic and a side to convince the audience.
My friend, I know you would concur with my belief that we must learn how to " argue: before we can "argue". To often we do not take the time to formulate and organize our arguments. Sites like Tigerdroppings unfortunately contribute to this malady of unsophistication that has infected our society .
So many who would complain of the inability of their youth to formulate coherent well structured argument are themselves caught up in the emotional .
To effectively argue, we must be able organize and prepare our positions and....also an ability to refute and potentially indict the other side's foundational evidence.
It all starts with speech class.

Friend, my recommendation is to quit being a puss. There are many lessons to learn from South Park and it is entertaining to boot. Trey and Matt are conservatives and republicans and constantly make fun of libs.

On par with South Park for filth and violence. Just saying.

I agree with you. Unfortunately, you can't give what you don't have.
Using Southpark as a primary learning tool shows a lack of effort, not an inspired epiphany of enlightenment.
