Moore has been very unpopular amongst moderate Republicans and independents in the state for a long time.

Seriously, this wasn't a referendum on Republicans or Democrats or Trump.
This entire election was about Roy Moore and Alabama was just completely done with him and were not going to vote for him no matter what.
Where Republicans fudged up was allowing him to be the nominee.

I've said this all along. With the power of incumbency behind him, Moore wouldn't have lost in two years if he wasn't beaten this time. Now he rides off into the sunset, and the Alabama GOP has a chance to find a competent candidate to elect in two years. Jones will have no shot.
