Not understanding why they are saying Jones is going to win
The logic is simple. Moore is doing fine percentage wise in the counties he needs to win big, but the turnout in those counties is so far looking TERRIBLE. Jones probably hoped to be dominating more in the counties he expects to win big, but the turnout in those counties has been astounding for a special election.
The story for this election is shaping up to be that Republicans stayed home and Democrats came out in numbers approaching those of a presidential election.

NYTimes saying

Our best guess is that Mr. Jones has an advantage, but paths to victory remain for Mr. Moore.

Jones now beating our estimates, on average, by 2.5 points in the 6 completed counties. There is also stronger turnout in Democratic areas.

That, and they typically have more people living there, so more votes andmore precincts to count.

It takes a long time to add up lots of votes--especially when the state has 300 more voters per precinct in African-American areas. But, nah, no voter suppression there.

The bigger cities haven't reported much yet. Expecting a lot more Jones votes in those areas.
This is over folks. Moore is done based on what is in and what is still out.
