IDK, I went to an elementary school about 2 years ago and asked how many kids don't eat lunch because of lack of funds. I was going to offer to pay for those that didn't. They said no kids go without their lunch.

When I was in college there were several times I had to choose between a 12 pack or supper......I never went thirsty and many times the cashier would throw in a slim jim

The federal school lunch program has been around for like 50 years. They get breakfast too, and often meals during summer

I eat one meal a day and make it count. Between 4-6pm. All protein and good shcitt, roughage, etc.
You don't need 2000+ calories a day unless you're working oilfield or the like, etc etc.

We are on the doorstep of a child obesity epidemic that includes diabetes and heart disease in juveniles.

My old church used to hand out backpacks of food on Fridays at a poor elementary school. They quit because the kids were trying to eat everything out of the bags before they got home because that was the only way they'd get any of the food.

A family of 3 with a net income of less than $2,200 per month can get $785. That is more than enough to feed three people for a month. They may not get to eat exactly what they want, but that is a ton of pork chops, rice, beans and other shelf stable foods such as canned vegetables. I'm saying this as a registered Democrat who supports the junk food ban as well. If kids are going hungry, and families have done everything they can do and applied for all assistance, then the funds are being misspent at the grocery store on high dollar items or unnecessary items.

Because there are only two options. Either "millions of American kids go to bed hungry every night" or we've got to spend tens of billions more than necessary to keep the underprivileged nourished.

The only way any child goes hungry in the US is if their parent chooses to allow their child to go hungry. Period.

People who are actually starving you can see the ribs like all those tv commercials about sending money to Africa. Some fat kid living in public housing with a refrigerator full of processed foods and cokes, air conditioning, 200 Directv channels and iPhones and iPads isn’t ‘hungry’ they are fricking lazy.

OK, but let's fix the problem, the parents/cheats.
Take the kids away from them, put the parents on some kind of community service program to pay back the cheat, and sterilize the parents so they can't produce more kids they won't take responsibility for.
