Well, that is an issue with this board.
- Most of it thinks Trump populism is conservative.
- You have the more old school guys like BuckyCheese who I would guess is like a William Buckley conservative.
- Some just think GOPe is conservative.
- Others think libertarianism is conservative.

I don't trust him at all. He passed major spending bills that were opposed by Republicans by working with Democrats.

I don't care what his heart says if he behaves like he's a Democrat.

Sounds like a lot of excuses for someone you claim is so conservative yet doesn’t govern that way. Why don’t you tell the board whatever the blackmail is they have on Johnson to make him behave the way they need him to behave. If he’s a such a principled conservative then he should stand by those values and not compromise them. The left doesn’t compromise their values. Why does Mike Johnson?

I don’t want to hear about government shutdowns and the brain dead corpse who’s been the shadow president. None of that should matter. If it comes down to it then shut it down. You’d be doing the country a huge favor.

Mike Johnson as Speaker under Trump will look VERY different than he did under Biden and a Dem Senate

This is embarrassing wishful thinking. The Speaker of the House, or any representative, is not beholden to the president in any way. If he had the willpower to not waste billions of our dollars on stupid shite he would do it. The fact that he's not makes him weak.

His spending and allowance of warrantless spying on American citizens says otherwise

I have known Mike since he was in the Louisiana Legislature. He is a true conservative who reveres President Reagan. He quotes Reagan and the Bible when the cameras are not on him

Guess who else reveres President Reagan, and quotes him all the time? Asa Hutchinson. The poster boy for shitbag liberal republicans.

quote:

Since becoming Speaker, he has had to do some things that are against his nature. But you have to consider the context. Biden was President and the Dems controlled the Senate. Anything other than shutting down the Gov’t was going to require Democrat votes and the signature of a Dem President

Spoken like a true capitulating bitch. You have the power of the purse as the majority leader of the house. That should mean you get some of the things you want. If you have to capitulate to marxists, even when you are the majority in the house where all the money is spent, then you are a capitulating bitch with no backbone. Let them shut the government down. They need the government on hell of a lot more than conservatives.

It's not because it's not based on principle.

I fall into this camp.

They are socially liberal and therefore not conservative. Conservatism seeks to maintain traditional order. Libertarians are ok with debauchery as long as they can get away with theirs.

Since you seem to know him, ask him what they have on him. An idiot can tell he is obviously compromised.

When only one party is expected to do all the compromising against the will of the people they are expected to represent. It's not really compromising. It's more like kowtowing. Compromise is where both parties don't get everything they want not just one side.

You know, Mike Johnson could have held the line. He could have. He could have chose to not support all of that Ukraine funding.

But he didn’t. He folded like a fricking lawn chair man. And he seemed/seems excited to do it.

We have been fed some much bullshite that is contrary to what our eyes and ears tell us for so long, it’s almost as if we have no patience for bullshite anymore, like this post.

He is Establishment.

Bought by all the big buyers in DC.

There's only a couple that aren't, but that's who America needs.

Conservatives can’t see the forest for the trees.

Liberals line the frick up and vote as one. It doesn’t matter what shade of liberalism you believe in. They make progress.

This is my main issue. He didn't begrudgingly vote for more spying and more funding for Ukraine, which he had previously been against. He didn't vote for these things as a compromise.

He gleefully voted for them and stated that Ukraine funding and FISA spying were now key pillars of his platform. He is now FOR them.

That is not governing. That is backpedaling and abandoning your core beliefs.

Agreed. But Trump populism isn’t Republican or even conservative.

And the battle between the GOPe and the MAGA movement has divided the GOP.

Those who still try to govern and will compromise in order to accomplish certain things. Not 100% perfect bills and ok with getting 80%.

And those MAGA types who just want to tell people to frick off if they don’t get 100%… but blame all the problems on other people.
