Is he serious? I mean that’s kind of the problem isn’t it? He’s not taking about investing for retirement but rather a means of actively trading stocks to generate yearly income. The average voter would be extremely hard pressed to do this for a multitude of reasons but give them access to insider information and the power to crown winners via legislation and it becomes a different story. As far as I’m concerned, until Mike and the rest of Congress starts publishing the congressional stock tips for all of us to take advantage of, he can get a second or third job if he needs the extra cash. Uber and Lyft are always hiring

God damnit, you just cannot hate Congress enough.
They work about 3 hours a week (if that), they get all the perks associated with that Congressional lapel pin like sporting event tickets for free, they get wined, dined, and funded by lobbyist, and they enjoy their tax-payer funded benefits for life...
Public Service was never meant to be a means by which you supported your family. It was supposed to be a sacrifice made, and a service paid to your country for a finite period of time then you went back to your regular job.

They should be limited to the returns the Social Security Trust/Lockbox earns.
Which would be negative with inflation. That's the joke. Get it?
I know it's a terrible joke, but so is what Johnson said.

I'm gonna be honest, I love the unforced errors by DC Uniparty members like Johnson, they are so comfortable in their DC Uniparty cocoons they can't help but to out themselves.
We will know when Congress is serious and when it has enough America First/MAGA members who are serious, you'll see legislation for congressional term limits and a balance budget amendment.

Full context.
USA Today
WASHINGTON – House Speaker Mike Johnson said he's personally in favor of a ban on congressional stock trading, even as he said he has "sympathy" for lawmakers who argue the practice should continue.
The comment comes as a bipartisan group of lawmakers have been pushing legislation to do just that, and as some lawmakers come under fire for trading stocks around President Donald Trump's tariff announcements.
"I'm in favor of that because I don't think we should have any appearance of impropriety here," Johnson told reporters on May 14.
Johnson added that he has "some sympathy" for the "counterargument" members have made: Lawmakers' salaries have been frozen since 2009 and has less purchasing power every year due to inflation. Over time, he said, "less qualified people" will be willing to run for Congress and pay the costs that come with it, like a home in Washington and in their home district, and stock trading helps them keep up. Members of Congress make $174,000 per year.
It was unclear whether he would put the legislation up for a vote on the House floor.
"My view is we probably should do that because I think it's been abused in the past and sadly a few bad actors discolored it for everyone," he said. "We have no tolerance for anything even resembling insider trading or any kind of advantage that people could take. Zero tolerance for it and we'll stamp it out ourselves."

Smoked him out of the hole quickly. Hit. They should maybe do:
1. Term Limits
2.make fhe pay 1M year and stick them to it. And at that salary. You can still get talented folks that aren’t bought off.

I've said it before Dems ain't the problems Republicans are, they all eventually expose who and what they are, I have hope , but my confidence in Republicans is in the shitter

You know what else will fix this issue, Mike?
Term limits.
Did you vote against your incumbent congressman or senator?
You can vote to limit your congressman or Senator's term anytime you go to vote.

I don't mind that they CAN trade stocks, but they should be subject to the same insider stock trading rules as everyone else. They definitely should not be able to trade on something directly before them in committee that isn't known to the public.
