I mean it's basic human nature.

Unless you’re in a customer focused position, why is your position not valued by your output but by your time in the chair?
Because we're talking about federal civi service employees. They aren't paid based on output, and they're virtually impossible to fire. This isn't the business world.
This is actually a great way to slash the federal workforce. Those that quit, simply don't replace them.

DJT is not going to tell XYZ corp their employees cannot WFH.
Correct but all the major corporations want people back in the office. Productivity is down. Jeff Bezos is leading on this front, expect the rest to follow

Might be interesting for those employees working from home that work out of D.C. Are they going to have them all move to the Washington D.C. area from whatever state they are working from remotely now?

WFH ain’t the issue. Having hundreds of totally useless jobs is the issue. Those people are going to just come to the office and gold brick like they used to

JC Penny and Dillards better start stocking up for all the fatties that will need new work attire.

A commercial real estate guy propping up his own interests are what this really is about.
Commercial real estate has been taking a beating with WFH. Cities hate it too as people aren’t out and about in the business districts spending the money with WFH.
WFH is a win for everyone else. It saves money wasted on commute, parking, auto wear and tear, fuel, etc that can be spent in more productive areas of the economy.
I have begun to think some of these posters like you are AI bots, you are just too fricking stupid to be a human that is capable of sentient thought

However, with that said, not sure how POTUS could mandate people going to the office. That's trying to dictate how someone runs/operates their business.
Technically POTUS is the top boss of every federal employee. Seems to be within his authority to tell his employees to report to the office.

I think the vast majority of people working from home greatly overestimate how effective they are at doing so

The federal government is paying millions and millions of dollars for unused office space.
Bring back critical govt employees to the office where it should be required
Fire unproductive WFH employees
Keep the productive WFH employees
Cancel leases/sell real estate that is simply empty unused office space

I am good with people going in to work but could we have them work somewhere besides DC? It costs a fortune to live there.

I guess my company seeing me send emails/redo significant sw files at 6am fixing a critical issue feel differently.
Edit: Private corps are allowed to do whatever they please. I am afforded a hybrid lifestyle, but it seems a large majority of people posting in here are either unafforded that opportunity or not skillful enough to be given it.

Make sure you stretch first

If they can WFH, they don't need to be in DC. If enough people in a given office, agency, department can WFH, then it doesn't need to be in DC either.
Sounds like more winning to me.

Its jealousy. And its so thick It stinks.
These have nots can continue to aspire for a better work situation, but the jealousy on display is very...Democrat.
