She and Hillary were both affected by the press during their two terms as 1st lady.
They were always praised in interviews and they always were on the front cover of grocery store mags. Even cooking mags even though neither one cooks.
They could conclude only one of two things:

a. 'I'm adored because the media is working for the Democrats.'
b. 'I'm adored because I'm just totally wonderful!'

They chose to believe 'b'.
