The primary is in three weeks. We could easily make redistricting happen, she just doesn't want to.

Changing the lines that close to an election could cause issues with qualifying.

Republicans from other red states get so confused when republicans in Florida find ways to do things instead of continually making excuses for when their politicians don’t. I know it has to be confusing seeing what the GOP in a red state is supposed to be instead of a bunch of bought and sold chamber of commerce RINOs. It’s also why FL is exploding from a wealth and population standpoint.

If Florida’s primary were on May 19th like Alabama’s, there is zero chance they could redistrict in time.

They could easily delay the primary and do all of that. There are 6 months before the election.

If we lose the House by 1 seat she should be barbecued. A relic of the old school weak GOP like Romney and Bush.

Don’t really know how this is gonna work in Louisiana as mail in ballots for the current format have already been cast and sent in.
Seems like this where the Purcell Principle comes in play.

Does Purcell matter when the decision comes from the Supreme Court?

I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest one way it can be done in Louisiana is for the Sec of State to ignore results on mail-in ballots with respect to votes cast for congressional seats (which are now considered unconstitutional); legislators can redraw district maps during the current regular session and establish new qualifying/election dates that align with fall elections.

I don't see how a Supreme Court ruling on a Louisiana case specifically involving congressional maps can be ignored.

I don't think Alabama having two majority black districts is geographically ridiculous. I don't think you'd have to try hard to honestly divide lines and end up in that situation.

Oh yes it is because I looked at it.

For the prior map, the DEM district was already the thinnest margin of registered voters among ALL the districts.

That means EACH AND EVERY R district was more heavily loaded R than the one D district was loaded D

That means they had to gerrymander the map even more to scrape together 2 thin D districts.

It was obvious, I could see it, and I did not see one God damned soul in the public arena mention it.

What do you mean by thin? As in the size of the district's population or the typical party lean?

My point is that the current district lines are more representative of the population breakdown of the state in terms of regions (to a lesser extent but still can squint and see it) and the top-line demographics. Alabama has 26.5% black people, so that means ~2 congressional districts that are black majority isn't that ridiculous. Coming it from another perspective, Alabama's state-level positions usually end up 65-35 (sometimes 60/40) R/D. So the idea that the state would have 2 democrats in their caucus is representative of the overall population mix.

I think the boundaries should be less about what arrives at a number that is beneficial to the national parties but instead ones that represent the actual cultural/regional boundaries of the state. Especially in a smaller state like Alabama, that is pretty easy because you're not trying to divide up dozens of districts. Representation should be representative even if it isn't all your team. These are silly and dangerous games where each side tries to pick their voters and it just undermines the credibility of the system. Eventually we are going to arrive at a point where nobody respects the system and the country unravels.

The fact that you thought that the legislature was going to up and redraw the maps in that time frame is on you, not the Governor

It's not a big deal. Immediately revert to the district map we were using 3 years ago before the courts forced us to redraw them to ensure we had an extra black Congressman.

Postpone the primaries 2 months to July. Runoff September. Elections November. Only thing lacking is willpower .

OK... so says granny-lezzie.

So no it's our turn, those of you who live in this state.

Time to ensure we "ARE in a position to have a special session", by demanding it from your state representatives.

While no huge fan of MeeMaw, I’d take a long look at this before saying anything beyond “we’re looking at all options” as an answer to any question about this.

They already have maps drawn up. It would be a very quick and simple vote. They'd just need to reinstall the maps previously overturned.
