A FLORIDA man facing a $50-a-day fine for displaying a "Trump Won" banner outside his home is planning to add another controversial sign.

Marvin Peavy has said he will also add a "Let's Go Brandon" banner to his house – a phrase that's become synonymous with "F**k you Biden."

quote:

Peavy found himself in hot water with officials in Walton County, Florida, last week when he was accused of violating signage regulations with the "Trump Won" banner erected outside his house.

The county's legal code states that political signs must be removed 15 days after the end of a political campaign.

The county has threatened to charge him a $50 fine for each day the sign stays up, beginning on October 25.

Peavy told the Northwest Florida Daily News he put up the banner to provoke "seaside liberals" and "the 1 percent leftists" – but asserted that it's "not political."

quote:

He told the outlet that he was prepared to pay the fine and to sue the county for violating his First Amendment rights.

Peavy also shared his plan to add another politically-charged banner – "Let's Go Brandon."

I thought Let’s Go Brandon was about NASCAR to the press.

He isn’t allowed to be a NASCAR fan?

Judging by the house in question, he’s not sweating a $50 per day fine.

That house looks like the guy can afford $50 a day in fines.

Agree but it's a damn shame when only the rich get to enjoy free speech.

Are political campaigns ever really over?

I constantly get texts and flyers sent to my house. Maybe we should start fining those assholes for being annoying.

"Fifty dollars a day ain't a d*** thing to me,” he told the newspaper. “I'm not going to take it down.”

I wonder if the code says "political" signs must be taken down or if "campaign" signs must be taken down.

I can see the justification for removing campaign signs after an election is over. It looks junky and the "speech" value is minimal. This obviously isn't a campaign sign (it was after the campaign). So either it is an overly broad interpretation of the code, or it is potentially unconstitutional. How can you ban all political signs?

Of course if this was just a HOA rule, it's a whole different deal.

That version is more of a direct address than a statement.

I'll allow it.

Hopefully, the city does something responsible with the extra cash. I, for one, would want to know what the city is going to do with that money.

I view this as a 1A case, so a $50 fine/day AGAINST 1A?
