Then the law is wrong.
As I have said multiple times in this thread, one can make that argument.

Are regular bicycles legal?
Yes. So are escooters/ebikes/mopeds that meet the legal requirements for use on the road. NY has laws that prevent certain types of those three vehicles from being used on public streets (all are illegal on sidewalks) as well as the sale and advertising for sale of those vehicles in NY state.

I'd love to hear how you plan on catching them?
Do tell boomer, do tell. I guess back in your day you'd chase em down on foot, in the snow, at 25mph.
How do we handle people who speed in cars? We don’t chase them down on foot in the snow, and we don’t punish the car companies, you loon!

Both of those predated Mamdani.
There are lots of laws that predate Mamdani that he chooses not to enforce. Why is he focusing on this one?

I’m sure it’s dangerous. Even riding a motorcycle in traffic is a recipe for an early death.
I think I just place this issue in the “buyer beware” category, and the “life has a particle of risk” category. A city mayor, even a city the size of New York, shouldn’t be strong-arming the manufacturers.

They are illegal to ride on NYC public streets without a tag or registration because they are then considered as a motorcycle or scooter.
This a bit of a mess. No escooters/ebike/moped that do not meet the NY code can be driven on the road, there is no registration/tag option that makes them legal.

So he is going after a retailer for selling something that is not illegal to own.
Mamdani is just enforcing the NY state law that does not allow certain types of the 3 categories of vehicle to be sold or advertised for sale in NY state.
You are correct they are legal to possess. But NY law prohibits the sale in the state.

This is straight up communism.
What actual principle of communism is this based on?

Good. Back to the subway with the rats and arsonists where his voters belong.

Imagine voting for that commie fig

There's Mamdummy and Big Tushy James telling their brain dead constituents, it's not you fault you were careless and injured yourself on an e-bike, we'll punish the retailers and manufacturers for putting you at risk.

Explain how the laws that predated Mamdani or his enforcement action is a tenet of communism.
Show me a company selling illegal bikes

Too many lives have been cut short by high-speed, illegal e-bikes and e-scooters.
I thought commies liked programs that thin the herd.

I tried finding a copy of the cease and desist order, a list of retailers that are supposedly selling illegal ebikes, and what models those are. I couldn't find anything. Ebikes are limited federally to 750w motors whether that's class 1, 2, or 3. I doubt any reputable retailers are selling "illegal" ebikes.

I guess they will be forced to risk being stabbed on the subway.
Meh. You haven't reallty been to NY until you see someone attacked on the subway (or thrown on the tracks).

I think you needed to add come conditions/caveats to that to make sense.
Here is an example of a website selling a bike that is illegal to advertise for sale or sale in NY state.
https://roadrunnerscooters.com
Here is an escooter ADVERTISED on Amazon from a 3rd party seller that is illegal to be sold in NY state
Amazon
Another sold from Amazon

One sold by Amazon that is illegal to sell in NY state

There are literally hundreds of these littered all over the internet. Note that nothing Mamdani is proposing goes after companies only selling escooters etc to NY that are legal to sale there. The following is one on Amazon legal to sell in NY state.
