Laurie White, the special prosecutor appointed in the instant matter, was previously Mr. Duncan’s attorney. Ms. White is also currently being defended by Attorney General Murrill’s office in a sexual harassment suit against Ms. White. The likely conflicts of interest precluding her involvement in this matter, if accurately stated, should have been obvious.
Pulled from the order.
What a joke.

FYI…You cannot cook the toughness out of that meat. Even with a pressure cooker. Only thing they are good for is sausage, and you have to go at least 70/30 pork. Otherwise you are making jerky sticks.

The lengths they are going to over this makes me wonder what is being covered up by this.
It could be the tip of a very explosive iceberg, but it could also just be the lashing out of bruised egos in the vein of:
"How dare they!!! WE (New Orleans) run this state, the state doesn't run us!"
I once heard Mitch Landrieu say that the farther you get from Louisiana, the more the only thing people know about the state is "New Orleans". It's probably the only pure truth I've ever heard him say. The problem is that I think too many in New Orleans take that as giving the city some sort of legal authority over the rest of the state. That sort of ego has a tendency to overreach itself to the point where it needs to be reality-checked.
This has been a yuuuuge reality-check for them.

Laurie White has had multiple issues issues with sexual harassment allegations against her as well as some racial stuff I believe. She is interesting to say the least. You'd think that she would have wanted to stay away from this BS, but she obviously likes to do dumb shite.
Landry and Murrill will make fools out of those that tried to move forward with this crap. Landry doesn't want to destroy N.O. though. He always talks about the importance of N.O. thriving for Louisiana's overall success and his actions have actually helped improve the city.

Not a big fan of Murrill but she has the right to do what she’s doing against New Orleans.
Moreno’s assertions that her actions are an attempt to intimidate, are absurd. This is what she is supposed to do as AG

Read McCallum’s concurrence. Bet your 401k on White getting serious attention from the ethics authorities.

it normal for the local jurisdiction to have the power to appoint a special prosecutor (from among their allies) to investigate and prosecute a state elected official?

Laurie White is the local Gloria Allred.
Money?
Boredom?
Political posturing?
Attention?
Vendetta?
Just looks like a train wreck.

What was that quasi judicial sinecure in New Orleans governmental structure where the officeholder got to keep a portion of the revenues and could even make off with the office furniture and equipment at the end of his term?

The real threat would be consolidation with other parishes to eliminate even more of these government jobs
So merge Orleans and the RINO’s in Jefferson Parish.

Sure, if you ignore every post I’ve actually made about the topic and join the brainless tribal chest beating, I can see how you might draw this conclusion.
I assumed someone who is constantly reminding everyone how smart he is would root his conclusions in actual evidence instead of tribal vibes.
More befuddling than Temu Trump waging this petty political war is watching the entire board abandon their professed conservative values just to spite an unpopular poster and the only city worth a shite in this whole state.

How many years has the board been lamenting about a StOLeN eLeCtiOn? And here we have actual real time indisputable proof of the government circumventing the will of voters and invalidating the legitimate outcome of an election and the board is ridiculing me for understanding that it’s fricked up and anti-democracy.
Literally zero integrity here. Everything is based on feelings and tweets.

Amazing how incredibly stupid so many people are who occupy positions of power, to whatever degree.

If it's what I'm thinking of, it's probably what the Orleans Coroner's office used to do.
The office historically generated revenue through fees for services like autopsy reports, toxicology reports, cremation permits, death certificates, transportation/storage, expert testimony, etc. The officeholder could retain a portion of these as personal compensation or perquisites, rather than full salary funding from the city/parish budget (a holdover from the 19th century which continued pretty much up until the 2000s-2010s, I believe). This made the position a classic sinecure (generally low day-to-day demands, while also being lucrative). This has largely halted (or possibly completely) by the mid-late 2010s as the 1990s through to that point saw the office move away from self-generated funds (due to their dropping as the population retreated) for city funds (read: audits).

I agree with you, for the most part, on the election issue. From the outside it looks like pure retaliation against New Orleans and its voters.
But this indictment seems absurd, although I dont know all the details.

... it's all about that gerrymandering issue ...
... if you take away ANOTHER lever of power , it will be very hard to regain that lever, until there is nothing left to pull for any power at all ...
Posted on 7/3/26 at 2:01 pm to JimEverett
I agree about the indictment being frivolous. But I also think the indictments against Susan Hutson and her CFO are petty and frivolous too. This all such a waste of resources and time.

All of this because they’re throwing a fit that the legislature told them no, you cannot keep having two do-nothing Clerk of Court positions.
You’d think a city as broke as NOLA is would want to use limited resources on productive measures and not frivolous lawsuits. Commies gonna commie, I guess
