Great point lost in all of this, is cutting the welfare state.

There are lots of jobs out there, just not enough people willing to take them.

If we "Bring the jobs back" and kick out all the illegals and restrict importing cheap labor, we're going to have one hell of a labor issue on our hands

That depends on a lot of things.

If manufacturing comes back because prices raise domestically due to tariffs, that's not good for America overall.

If manufacturing jobs can come back naturally with competitive wages, sure, but those exist and are not being filled today (Same with trades).

Lib? I'm the one arguing for capitalism and removing government from the economy

You're the other guy

Losing? WTF
Let's see. We spend more money on goods from other countries than those countries spend on our goods. Seems that money is flowing out of America and into other countries. Sounds kinda like a loss.

Thanks so much for posting this. I wondered why Trump was so much more aggressive this time around. That makes sense.

Yes, that implies the opposite of losing.

It means we're rich as frick with a strong currency. That's winning, in my eyes.

Would you rather be poorer with a weaker currency? That would help the trade imbalance.

Yes that was illuminating for me as well.

I'm at a loss. There are even memes floating around showing the stupidity of this argument, and it's still getting made.

you think manufacturing jobs are low paying jobs? compared to what exactly? I would think those jobs would come with benefits and be better than working retail or min wage jobs

Why not, you worried about not being able to purchase cheap dung from china?

How do we compete "naturally"with slave child labor, with no benefits or protections for workers in other countres?

Lol. It was funny...and almost reassuring...to see that you got downvoted for a simple statement of fact.

Or, we can encourage other countries to open their markets fairly to our products...

In the end, your side lost the election. Better luck next time.

Absolutely I did. The tariffs on trade started after WWII. We agreed to it because the other countries needed to rebuild. If they are not rebuilt by now, they're not going to be rebuilt.

the cold truth is 98% of you are too clueless to help. if you could be made to understand, you already would understand. US manufacturing is just One side of the coin. this is about other countries and US manufacturers who want to use the US marketplace for very little cost while charging US companies high costs to use their marketplaces. walmart doesn't let other companies come in and use their facilities for free. neither does amazon. neither would you. that's an overly simplistic explanation.

This is the answer to the OP's question:
quote:

One day you’ll understand.

Which is to say no one really knows, but they'll say it was going to be whatever outcome we get - all along.

We won't know the main reason until it's done.
