That's a lot of votes left to be counted. Sadly it may take Arizona a year

That is absolutely absurd and inexcusable. The reason those is partisan bullshite with the parties trying to blame each other. Look at this ridiculous article from the local Fox affiliate in Phoenix as to why it takes so long...

quote:

PHOENIX - Although the presidential race is declared, voters in the Grand Canyon State still have a pressing question – why do we still not have all of the Election Day results?

It comes down to four main factors

1. Maricopa County's size
2. The political makeup of Arizona
3. The length of the ballot
4. Voting laws were written and passed by Republicans

Maricopa County, the largest in the state, is also the second largest in the nation. It’s only behind Los Angeles County, which is reliably Democrat. Maricopa, on the other hand, has become more purple, making our races tighter and closer.

This year, we also had a two-page ballot, which takes a while to process.

Additionally, a convergence of our laws – convenience and accuracy – slows things down.

Mail ballots take longer to count because they need to be scanned, sorted and signature verified. Voters can return mail ballots by the close of polls on Election Day. One-fifth of voters did that in 2022.

State law allows the signature to be "cured" five days after Election Day, which means if the election office thinks the signature or some other detail is wrong, the voter has five more days to come in and fix it so the ballot counts.

Simply put, states that count faster, like Florida, have different laws. Florida cuts off early ballot drop-off at polling places on the Friday before Election Day. Not a lot of people vote that way as a result, and state law requires counties to finish counting early ballots by 7 p.m. the day before Election Day.

That means when the polls close, the process is already well underway and results can be posted quickly.

Here in Arizona, it’s just beginning for us. Ultimately, it comes down to what people prioritize in elections: convenience of mail? Speed of the results? All are factors for voters to consider.

What are these crazy Republican laws?

quote:

The expected slowdown stems from a new state law enacted in February that requires poll workers to tally the number of mail ballot envelopes dropped off at the location before they deliver results to the central counting facility. This is just an initial count of the number of ballot envelopes. The votes on these ballots get counted later, after voter signatures on the ballot envelopes are verified.

Still, the task will take time. In past elections, more than 1,500 mail ballots have been dropped off at busy sites on the day of the election.

So poll workers have to count how many ballots are dropped off before they are actually sent to be counted. Set aside the fact of how stupid it is to drop off a "mail" ballot at a polling place where you could, you know, actually vote in person, think of how difficult it is to count to a number as large as 1,500!!!!!

However, it looks like the real hold up is this 5-day curing period. "A five-day curing period to determine whether provisional ballots or early ballots with mismatched signatures should be tabulated also can slow the pace of Arizona election results." Five f-ing days to figure out if the person who voted is actually the person who voted.

But hey! Don't you dare compare us with Florida. They have 2/3rs as many people as us!

So you're talking about a handful of Republicans that run Maricopa County elections? I'm talking rank/file Republicans, who overwhelmingly vote for Kari Lake.

She hasn't accomplished frick all for Republicans in Arizona. She lost a ridiculously winnable governor's race and made this senate run something it shouldn't have been. You know she's been a Republican for about 7 minutes, right?

I had to search grocery stores in 2 States to find freaking red kidney beans for my RBNRice. They are cooking now in my ninja pressure cooker. Recipe from Jody Plauche.

They will be ready in 1 hour 15 minutes (45 minutes remaining I cannot freaking wait) before AZ finishes doing what every State takes 2 hours to do.

Seriously I have lived in places with two page front and back ballots. it never slowed down election returns.

My paper ballot was transported 45 minutes on election night by Hank Kimball and Mr. Haney and it was counted by 10 the same night.

Is AZ Corky, or what?

That is true, maybe the whole “McCain Republican” thing gets overplayed to make a narrative for their 2018 and 2020 losses. Instead of MAGA not showing up for McSalley, it’s MAGA tarnished the Republican brand in Arizona. They tried to do the same thing in my state with Oz. The narrative was that Trump tarnished the GOP in PA and Mastriano’s (who was a terrible candidate imo) race dragged Oz down. Because the reality that MAGA didn’t show up for Oz goes against the “they’re cultists who would vote for anyone Trump tells them to” thing.

Regardless of what happens, this needs to be recounted or audited.

Why is it so hard to believe that people don’t want to vote for Lake?

Trump won Arizona. Is the narrative now that there was some directed fraud aimed only at Lake?

She has underperformed other republicans on statewide ballots every time she runs. Are there any other conclusions to draw beyond she’s a bad candidate?

fricking why? Are these mail in ballots that literally have not come in like in Nevada?

Or are these ballots they had on election day? If the latter there is zero excuse to have that big a percentage remaining uncounted in a relatively small state.

It’s really unbelievable. It’s like they take pride at being the laughing stock of the whole country.

Can other state AGs file a lawsuit against AZ to get their shite together and quit being dumbasses?

Arizona SOS site says 97% reporting and has shown that all day but in comparison to 2020, they are still behind the total vote by 800-900k.

AZ didn’t have nearly 30% less vote in 2024 compared to 2020. The SOS needs to fix that shite.

Then how did she win the primary?
One of your “better” candidates could not beat her.

She needs nearly 55% of the remaining 750K ballots, if they actually exist, to take the lead.
