It stands to reason that we can't have an election with a map that was just ruled unconstitutional so I am not sure he has a choice
Voting has already started. That’s gonna be an issue.

Why? Just rule those null and let people know they have to vote again due to an illegal map

This is why McMakin dropped out of that house primary so quick isn't it?

The issue is the unconstitutional map.

I’m not sure if party primaries can be treated differently but once votes are cast in a federal election US Constitutional prerogatives come into play. I’m not aware of anyone trying this before.

I'm so glad my representative isn't Cleo Fields anymore

I give him credit for taking opportunities to ingratiate himself to his core supporters but he’s the one who made the need possible.

You’re right, I guess I got a little too excited

Going ahead with an election predicated on an unconstitutional map seems like an unwise course of action though.
What choice does he have but to suspend and redraw?

People on this board hated Landry before he even ran for office. It's like they forget that all politicians are opportunists who promote themselves and that Louisiana Governors have to be graded on a Louisiana curve.

Considering the ruling was specifically about LA's map, I see it as rather simple, any election based on that map is unconstitutional and could easily be challenged.
How can you hold an election with an unconstitutional map? You can't, so the votes already cast are void.

I just said this over there - seems we are under a ruling that prohibits lines to be redrawn until after the 2030 census... so; does a SCOTUS ruling not override that?
The SCOTUS ruling specifically talks about their ruling in that case. The ruling specifically states they would have ruled this same way in that case if Alabama had brought these same arguments.
The door is completely open for MeeMaw to call a special session, suspend the primary, and get these maps in place for a new primary.
Just like during COVID, all the governors in the surrounding states will act far sooner than she will.

They better approve a 6-0 map. Slice up New Orleans.
Scorched earth.

Huh? Landry made the current map?

are going to be mad that 10% of the population that currently gets 30% of the delegates are about to get the same treatment
So you believe we need to have voting districts based on race? So are we going to draw a district for Vietnamese and Koreans? How about the Irish? shite, why stop there. Should we draw districts based on religion while we are at it?
Stop me when one of these sounds unreasonable...

Why wouldn’t he take immediate action to redraw so that our districts aren’t considered invalid/illegal?
Because leftists are angwy. That's really the only reason. Logic and intelligence has nothing to do with this. The left is just mad they are told to stop being racist....AGAIN.

I find it hilarious how all the republicans governors are just having the state legislature redraw the maps whereas the democratic governors are letting their constituents make the decision.
Just goes to show you, republicans really don’t care about your vote.

no. i'm saying that people happy about disenfranchising 48% of Virginia are going to be mad about 10% being disenfranchised because of race.
they're disingenuous, but they'll still pretend to be mad.
