Would have preferred an email vs the humiliation of having a rent-a-cop escort me out of the building personally.
Isn't google the one that that fired people at the security entrance? If the badge didn't work when you swiped, you were fired.

These are the same kinds of assholes who told everyone else getting laid off “learn to code!”
Most of the ones laid off didn’t have a clue how to code. But they were total assholes.

I’ve worked with some of these types before.
Most of the people I encounter at big tech are not really accustomed to delivering anything. They don’t respond well to deadlines, and get angry when you hold them accountable for anything. A lot of them just bounce back and forth between start ups and move on before the company becomes too structured and “uncool”.
The people who actually bring creativity and strong work ethic to the office aren’t the ones getting laid off at Google, Twitter, Meta, etc. At least not yet.

They got 4 months pay..
The guy from the OP story got 56 weeks severance according to his Twitter. He had also been there 20 years so he likely had substantial stock options from pre-IPO days. Not shedding any tears for him.

They were given 16 weeks + 2 weeks for every year they were with the company.

This is just a variation on the old tech layoff strategy. Deactivate your accounts and bar access to the building before they tell a person that they are laid off.
California is out of $1B in state income taxes if all the laid off tech types don’t find equivalent employment or move out of state.

Why would anyone in todays world working for a corporation not expect to get laid off at some point.
That said, companies typically know the doers vs. talkers amongst their employee population. Google has yet to cut into their doers.

Just detached baws living across the country that's impression of tech is the caricature they get from Facebook memes.
Maybe 15 years ago you could still find some wide-eyed suckers thinking "Do no evil" actually meant something. But today? They are a resume padder with cush benefits, and as willing as anyone to use economic uncertainty to cut fat and put downward pressure on wages.
But their ESG scores are through the roof?
The point is they’re saying all the right things as a company and virtue signal but they’ll protect their bottom line above all else.
FYI, Tim Cook took a $50mm pay cut this year.
At his own request.

I know several people who were laid off, and i know what they were given as part of the separation.
The fact any of them are complaining is pathetic

These same gullible morons worshipped Steve Jobs as some kind of messianic figure when he was an unadulterated a-hole.
