All markets.

You would have to pay 25% taxes on the incremental that your house increases in value. Where are people going to get that money?

The typical $100M+ net worth is not sitting on a pile of cash. That $100M is tied up in businesses.

I think the definition right now is anyone with $1 million in liquid assets.

Wall Street would collapse.

I was an intern at Drexel Burnham on October 19, 1987. The infamous "Black Monday". This would make that look like nothing. Immediate 30 to 40% loss for all markets.

I think it's actually worse than that. I don't see how it could conceivably continue to exist as we know it, if such a thing were ever imposed.

<Bunch of folks scrambling around in some back room - Can we just go back to yelling about OMB and nothing else really, PLEASE?!?!>

It's so stupid that it's almost comical.
"Hey great, my home increased in value! It's worth more than I paid for it! Oh wait, I can't afford to give the government $15,000. I guess I have to sell me house and downsize to pay the government."

How would one properly account for unrealized gains? Once you’re taxed on a certain dollar amount, is that dollar amount exempted next year? Or is that dollar taxed year after year?

Can you imagine her standing up there attempting to discuss this?

I doubt she's even able to define unrealized gains.

The stupid part is most people dont care about taxing the rich. All she and any politician needs to do is just say they are going to give tax breaks to everyone, huge tax breaks. Does not matter that she will not do it, all she has to do is say she will to get some low IQ folks to vote for her just based on that.

Taxing unrealized gains is the dumbest fricking proposal I've ever heard.

Pure theft and nothing more.
