John Stefanski makes it official, announces campaign team for Louisiana Attorney General

quote:

Republican state Rep. John Stefanski of Crowley officially announced his campaign for Louisiana attorney general Monday, though he has been running and raising money with the intention to make the 2023 race since January.

Stefanski, 38, an attorney who practices law in his hometown with his father, is seeking to replace current Republican Attorney General Jeff Landry, who is expected to run for governor.

“As the top law enforcement officer in Louisiana, my first priority will be defending Louisiana families against the rise in violent crime,” Stefanski in a statement. "Violent crime in our major cities is out of control and I’m ready take a proactive stand against it. As Louisiana's next Attorney General my message will be crystal clear - the rule of law will be respected and enforced or the consequences will be severe."

Others expected to run for attorney general include Third District Attorney John Belton, an Independent, and Landry's top attorney Liz Murrill, a Republican who is the state's solicitor general.

Stefanski also announced that he's secured a veteran campaign team with Louisiana roots:

Among them: Sally Nungesser, whose clients include most of the state's Republican congressional delegation; senior data analyst Bill Skelly; senior advisor Chris Carr, former political director for the Republican National Committee; Go Big Media's Brent Barksdale, who will lead the production team and was part of the campaign that helped defeat Republican Wyoming Congresswoman Liz Cheney; Push Digital lead by Autin Stukins, who's leading digital efforts for Herschel Walker's Georgia Senate campaign; and general consultants Lionel Rainey and Lunden Chenevert, well-known campaign managers in Louisiana and beyond.

quote:

Stefanski won his seat in the House in a 2017 special election. He is chairman of the House and Governmental Affairs Committee, which leads the effort to redraw Louisiana's political boundaries this year as part of the once-a-decade redistricting process.

Granted, incumbent AG Jeff Landry hasn't officially announced he'll be vacating his AG seat in favor of running for Governor; however, he's been running for Louisiana's top spot since January 2016, so not that big a gamble for Stefanski to announce now.

He's got some Louisiana big-hitter consultants lined up already, it appears, including a couple who have been part of some pro-Trump-based initiatives, such as the defeat of incumbent GOP Congresswoman Liz Cheney.

This is a race pretty much guaranteed to have a Republican winner at the end, only question is will it be Stefanski or would someone like Liz Murrill be able to harvest a large enough share of the more Landry-type/Moon Griffon Republican vote?

I like Stefanski. I'm down.
And for whatever y'all want to say about Jeff for Gov, it's about as good as we'll get in this dumb arse state. Get him in there.

I wonder if we’ll see anyone else enter the race. I heard some interesting rumblings awhile back about Mark Garber but he may have reconsidered.

I know him and his sister from law school. I would happily vote for him.

Not meant as an outright negative label. Personally, while I don't always agree with him, I generally like Moon and appreciate what he's done for the state's taxpayers for decades now running a talk-show that helps to inform listeners of the on-goings in Louisiana politics and government.

No one else has carried that torch for as long as he has.

Moon often does a good job of shining a light on corruption and bad dealings. He’s also extremely cringe with bad racist jokes and hatred of anything not strictly socially conservative. One could ask for better allies, but could also do much worse.

One major issue for me with Landry is his being aligned with John Bel Edwards and trial lawyers on the Freeport-McMoran coastal lawsuit deal, which is completely opposite of the oil & gas industry and several of the coastal parishes themselves.

He's always wanting to make himself out to be the pro-oil industry candidate, and he's thankfully helped lead the lawsuit vs. the Dept of Interior on offshore leasing, but that settlement deal that seems to be loved by only Louisiana trial lawyers against the industry appears odd.

He told one when he was a speaker at a big GOP event in BR early last spring which I attended. I remembered looking at the other young-ish folks in my group and everyone was cringing real bad. I don’t remember exactly what he said, but it was really dumb.

If you’re going to do a racist joke, shitte better be really really funny, or else it just looks bad.

In today's age...personally not seeing anything wrong with this. If the lefty democrats hate me for not being ok with their groomer ways, then not sure what is wrong with this unless we are expected to be the ones that keep letting it happen and meet them in the middle as they continue to move further left to the evil side of things.

Younger conservatives don’t want a government nanny state telling them what they can and cannot do just because the folks running it have an R next to their name. They don’t want a government that cracks down on alcohol consumption, bans live music, strangles property owners who try to develop small businesses, puts people in prison for weed, engages in civil asset forfeiture absent criminal convictions, etc. While a lot may find using the word “marriage” to describe the legal union of two monogamous homosexuals, most don’t really give a f$&k what consenting adults do in privacy. Abortion is murder, but consensual activity like gambling, sodomy, drinking, prostitution, smoking, etc are crimes without victims.

It’s one thing to oppose sexually explicit content in schools. It’s one thing to oppose quota systems for higher ed and employment which serve to actively discriminate against heterosexual whites, but we have older folks in the republican party who don’t believe in private property rights as soon as someone wants to open up a bar room on a busy commercial street in a small town.

This should illicit a "who?" from most.

John Young from Jefferson and more importantly John Belton (Black district attorney, no party, thinks JBE covered up the Ron Greene killing) are potential candidates.

A more interesting AG race then we have had in years.
