If every person is created equal and some would say are created in the image of God, can it be said that no one is better or worse than anyone else?

Maybe the Declaration of Independence and Bible are in error or misunderstood? I mean, in 1776 enslaved people, women, many Native Americans and people without property certainly weren’t seen as equal.

Not sure what outcome you're looking for with this thread, but it doesn't seem good

Jefferson was very aware of the social and economic issues of his time. I truly believe that he included it as something for our country (soon) to aspire to.

Created equal isn’t the equity you’re looking for.

Created equal in that they/we should have the opportunity for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

We obviously have different skills and mentalities, but all shouldn’t be treaded upon.

They were seen as equal in God’s eyes. There was a sizable contingent who thought, or pretended to think, that negroes were not quite human. The native American question is tied up in their lack of a concept of ownership of land and the still extant doctrine that might makes right among nations. Women were weak and needed a man’s protection. And overlaying all of that was greed.

you seem not to understand the difference between the Bible and the DoI. however, yes the founding fathers were hypocritical morons but they didn't see blacks and Indians as "men" or "human".

Jefferson's original draft of the Declaration of Independence included a remonstrance against slavery.

Thomas Jefferson meant everyone, including slaves.

It means that everyone is afforded the opportunity to work your arse off if you want to make it, Now some have to work less than others but the opportunity is there if you are willing to sacrifice,

The DoI says the same, in so many words, when it says that all men are endowed by their creator. Being created in the image and likeness of God is where our inherent value comes from.

It is- by you.

Of course. But the DoI and the Bible are both identifying that behavior as immoral and making the case for equal value with different roles.

Equal in dignity.

Saying it’s self-evident is a bit of hyperbole, but it is discoverable by all and by the collective we, with the use of logic.
