in the America you envision, we would not be able to buy a pizza, breakfast burrito or kolache.

Don’t be daft. We’re not talking about food, music, or how they dress; we're talking about core values of what makes an American.

Values that teach us to hold our individual freedoms about the state/collective. That we are free to make of ourselves what we can without authoritative interference, or, yes, even to fail. That one is absolutely secure in their person and property regardless of personal beliefs. That each man is a king unto himself and owes no homage to any power not of his choosing; and to respect the freedoms of others to choose differently. That, quite paradoxically, we will answer the call to protect said freedoms with the ultimate sacrifice.

There is most definitely something special that makes an American an American. It’s not what you eat, or what music you listen to - for in that diversity is our strength. If however, an immigrant chooses not to embrace that special something, and chooses instead to subvert the American way, then they are most certainly a detriment to our society.

I understood such to have been implied in the OP. I see you did not, and therefore respect your objections.

Correct me if I'm wrong here... these areas were stolen by the us military after settlers decided they weren't going to assimilate to the culture of the country who rightfully owned the land at the time. Manifest destiny and whatnot.

it is a common problem on discussion fora. People tend to expect every post to be a response to every conceivable notion which might have been raised not only in the original post, but also in any potential responses to it.

We really need to pass legislation making English the national language and quit catering to those that can’t speak it. If you can’t speak English then you shouldn’t be able to attend public schools. That alone would force assimilation. Get with it or crawl back to your shithole.

Neither did the English when they immigrated.

So, which is it? Are you complaining that they are not adopting American culture, or that they are learning English?
put those hands together. English speaking is part of American culture. It's the primary language, spoken as a first language by the vast majority of the citizenry

I speak Spanish and refuse to when someone here in houston starts the converstaion in Spanish. I'm not pandering. I make the communication extremely difficult for them.

My grandparents came over from Sicily and forbade their children from speaking Italian. That's what assimilation looks like!

Every photo that I looked at from memorial day recording , civil war, World War 1 and 2, 95% of the people in the photos and video were young white people , that's just a fact...

I'm not doubting you, and if you look at the political climate and racial division back then it makes sense for why whites were photographed more than other races.

That doesn't change history and the present though.

Why should they when you have a major domestic political party, their leaders and candidates, along with the media and most in secondary and college education shitting on American culture as evil, racist, misogynistic, etc. almost every day

You're wrong. Mexico ceded California as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo to end the Mexican-American War, a war they started with the Thornton Skirmish. The Mexican-American War came about because the Mexican government refused to recognize the Treaties of Velasco (which recognized Texas as an independent republic) even though Santa Anna himself signed it, this was especially problematic for Mexico as by the time the Thornton Skirmish happened Texas had already become a state of the US.
